EDINBURGH 2022: Pick of the Programme- Comedy
With over 3000 shows now onsale for the 2022 Edinburgh Festival Fringe, trying to narrow down what to see can be a bit of a task. BWW reviewer Natalie O'Donoghue has selected her top ten picks across the festival programme to highlight the shows you really don't want to miss this year!
Always on my must see list, Newcastle's sparkliest is up for her first full Fringe run since 2018. I have seen a couple of previews of this show including a work in progress run at Monkey Barrel last year and am super excited to see the hour long version of It Is What It Is in August.
Brassy, abrasive, rude, belligerent. They're all words that have been used to describe Rachel Fairburn and she's proper sick of it now. Join co-host of the cult phenomenon All Killa No Filla podcast for a show that looks at why people keep telling us to hashtag Be Kind.
In a poll by the New York Times asking people what the worst thing was that could happen to them, the number one result was blindness. Comedian Jamie MacDonald doesn't think it's all that bad. Having seen Jamie's previous show Designated Driver I'm very much looking forward to new material from him.
Host of Hoovering podcast, The Guilty Feminist podcast co-host and tv regular Jessica Fostekew is back at the Fringe with a brand new hour about private things and public things. Fostekew's previous Fringe show Hench was nominated for the Comedy Award and she's back at the best comedy venue at the festival for 2022 with Wench.
Last seen at the festival in 2019 with Venus Sophie Duker has since been on Taskmaster, Live at the Apollo and pretty much everywhere else. 2022's Hag is definitely not one to be missed.
Another sequinned Monkey Barrel must-see is the brilliant Kiri Pritchard-McLean. Having made a heroic effort to stream content, put on zoom shows and boost other comedians during lockdown, she's doing a run of new show Home Truths at the festival ahead of an autumn UK tour.
In the seemingly never ending brilliance of the Monkey Barrel 2022 programme is another Glasgow favourite. A brand new hour from Christopher Macarthur Boyd questions "what happens when you're out of work, out of money and out of ideas?". Star of BBC's Up For It and co-host of the Enjoy An Album podcast, Oh No is definitely one of my most anticipated shows for 2022.
A regular on the Glasgow club comedy scene, Susie McCabe recently performed her biggest headline show to date at the King's Theatre as part of the comedy festival. In her 40th year Susie has decided to leave cynicism behind and become a more positive person which is the subject of her show Born Believer.
Patti Harrison makes her highly anticipated debut at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. As seen and heard on I Think You Should Leave With Tim Robinson, The Lost City, Made For Love, Together Together, Shrill, The Tonight Show, Bob's Burgers, Bojack Horseman, Jimmy Kimmel Live, and more.
Fresh from an arena tour supporting John Bishop, Glasgow's Ray Bradshaw is bringing a new hour to the Fringe. His previous shows have won Best Show and Outstanding Contribution to Comedy at the Scottish Comedy Awards and Ray was also the first comedian ever to win a Scottish Culture Award.
