BWW Review: AFTER MIDNIGHT at Signature Theatre
After Midnight at Signature Theatre is a revue featuring the music of Harold Arlen, Dorothy Fields, Jimmy McHugh, and DC’s own Duke Ellington, and is set around the poems of Langston Hughes. The show features some of DC’s finest talent including Nova Y. Payton (a Signature regular) and Hamilton star Christopher Jackson as well as a stacked and extremely enthralling ensemble. With direction by Jared Grimes and music direction by Mark G. Meadows, the show proved to be a roaring success with over-the-top performances, fabulous design, and swinging music.

BWW Review: ROCK OF AGES Lights Up the Landmark Theatre
For one night only, the 10th anniversary touring production of Rock of Ages rocked out at Syracuse's Landmark Theatre. The jukebox musical featuring strobe lights, fog effects, classic '80s hits certainly got the crowd going as the cheesy, yet amusing story of love, hope, and dreams played out. It was 'nothing but a good time' as the energetic rock musical came to life under the direction of Martha Banta featuring powerhouse vocals, spot on '80s costume designs by Cynthia Nordstrom, and out of this world lighting by Mike Baldassari.

Plotted around songs by Styx, Poison, Twisted Sister, Europe, Bon Jovi, Pat Benetar, and many, many other familiar favorites, this over-the-top, bad-to-the-bone jukebox musical has no problem poking fun at the time period and at itself.

The young, energetic cast of ROCK OF AGES' 10th Anniversary Tour is too young to have even been conceived on any Prom Night before 1993, but they don't seem to mind. The script, such as it is, builds stock scenarios and characters to form a through-line for more than 30 big-hair eighties rock standards that are the backbone and muscle of the ROCK OF AGES experience. The band is top notch, handling all the quirks and signatures of big-hair rock like champions. Enjoy this revisitation of your youth as performed by the greatest '80s cover group you're likely to encounter.

Directed by Lisa Rothe (Hold These Truths), WILD ABANDON begins performances on September 19, 2018 at Irish Rep Theatre (132 West 22nd Street) on the W. Scott McLucas Studio Stage, with an opening night set for September 25, and will run through October 21, 2018.
