Seeking members of Actors’ Equity and nonunion actors. Performers of all ethnic and racial background are encouraged to attend. Casting: All Roles.
Character Breakdown
All actors must be strong actors/singers with skilled comedic timing and pop/rock style vocals.
KIRA, 18-Mid 30’s; pop singer with soprano notes, range: G3 A5; an ingénue with a great sense of humor; Kira is beautiful and adventurous; she is determined to help Sonny find his inspiration; a great singer who moves very well and has a facility for accents; experience with roller-skating a big plus; this character is on skates for most of the show.
SONNY, 18-Mid 30’s; pop tenor with rock sound, Range: B3 C6; a leading man with comedic chops and a great rock voice; Sonny is a frustrated artist who has lost his way; he is passionate, energetic, and lovably naïve; experience with roller-skating a plus; this character is on skates for a few musical numbers.
DANNY MAGUIRE, 50+; tenor with jazz/swing sensibility, range A3 C6; an old-school song and dance man who is equally convincing as a hard-nosed businessman and jazz musician; Danny has lost touch with his artistic spirit but finds it again with Kira and Sonny s help; strong comedic instincts are needed to take on other small roles. Will be required to dance, as well as skate in one number.
MELPOMENE 30+; mezzo with belt, range: G3 A5; a versatile actress with a great belt and strong comedic chops; Melpomene is the villain of the piece and loves every minute of it; great stage presence and a quick wit are required, as this actress will play additional small roles; will be required to dance, as well as skate in one number.
CALLIOPE 30+; mezzo with belt, range: G3 A5; a strong comedic actress with a great voice; Calliope is Melpomene’s not-so-bright sidekick. Inventive comedic instincts are a must, as this actress will play additional small roles; will be required to dance, as well as skate in one number.
THALIA 20’s – 30’s; One of Kira's older sisters and fellow muse. Muse of comedy. Actor doublings include: Siren, Young Danny, Tubes Singer, and Cyclops. Pop/rock voice and great musicality needed; dancer with very strong comedic ability; tap dancing, and clowning all pluses; roller skating is a must.
EUTERPE 20’s – 30’s; One of Kira's older sisters and fellow muse. Muse of music. Actor doublings include: Siren, Andrews Sister, and Thetis. Pop/rock voice and great musicality needed; dancer with very strong comedic ability; tap dancing, and clowning all pluses; roller skating is a must.
ERATO 20’s – 30’s; One of Kira's older sisters and fellow muse. Muse of lyrics and erotica. As Eros, she is responsible for shooting Kira with the arrow of love brought on by Melpomene and Calliope's spell. Actor doublings include: Siren, Andrews Sister, Eros, and Hera. Pop/rock voice and great musicality needed; dancer with very strong comedic ability; tap dancing, and clowning all pluses; roller skating is a must.
TERPSICORE 20’s – 30’s; One of Kira's older sisters and fellow muse. Muse of dance. As Hermes, the messenger of the gods, he is deeply masculine in voice but sassy and flippant in attitude. Actor doublings include: Siren, Tubes Singer, Hermes, and Centaur. Pop/rock voice and great musicality needed; dancer with very strong comedic ability; tap dancing, and clowning all pluses; roller skating is a must.
Preparation
Please prepare two, 16-32 bar cuts of a pop song, one up tempo and one ballad. Please also bring accompaniment music, resume and headshot. AEA members should bring proof of Equity membership. EMC actors will also be seen. Nonunion actors are welcome and encouraged to attend. Actors should be 18 years.
