Summary: Richard Rodgers entered his seventh decade of writing for the theatre with this fresh retelling of the Biblical story of Noah. It seems that the building of the ark was only the first of Noah's many daunting challenges in a journey that wasn't always smooth sailing. By turns inspirational and hilarious, Two by Two demonstrates that being chosen by God for great things does not necessarily simplify the daily demands on a father and husband. It's good fun from The Good Book... and when the land has dried, man and beast alike are invited to go forth and prosper in a bright New World.

Roles Available:

Noah, the central figure, Noah is portrayed as a witty and determined man tasked with building the ark. Despite his age (over 600 years old), he remains steadfast in his faith and commitment to God's command. His character balances humor with wisdom, making him both relatable and inspiring.

Esther, Noah's wife, Esther, is a strong and supportive presence. She often serves as the voice of reason within the family, helping to mediate conflicts and keep everyone focused on their monumental task.

Shem, the oldest boy, is a big businessman, innately greedy, only concerned about money and position.

Ham, wants to get the most for doing the least, you know the type. The counterpart of the petty con man all over the world.

Japheth, Noah's youngest son, Japheth, is skeptical of God's plan and struggles with the idea of the world's destruction. His doubts and emotional journey add depth to the story, highlighting themes of faith and questioning.

Leah is married to Shem, one of Noah's sons. She is often portrayed as pragmatic, industrious, and reliable. Her personality compliments Shem's, who tends to be more serious and focused. Leah demonstrates resilience and practicality, aiding in the monumental task of preparing for the flood. Her character often serves as a grounding force within the family, offering stability amidst the chaos. Her interactions with Shem highlight the importance of teamwork and mutual support in overcoming challenges.

Rachel, Japheth's wife, contrasts with Leah in several ways. She is passionate and idealistic, often caught between her loyalty to Japheth and her own sense of morality. Her relationship with Japheth is complicated by his doubts about the flood and God's plan, which causes tension in their marriage. Rachel's role in the story underscores themes of faith, love, and perseverance. She challenges Japheth to confront his beliefs and grow as a person, while also navigating her own struggles within a family facing unprecedented trials.

Goldie is portrayed as quirky, playful, and curious. She is not part of Noah's immediate family but enters the narrative as an outsider. Her background as a priestess from the Temple of the Golden Ram adds an intriguing layer to her character, as she represents a different belief system and way of life. This contrast creates tension and opportunities for growth within the family dynamic.
