AUDITION NOTICE – The Seagull

Josh Thone and Company LLC is seeking actors for a contemporary production of Anton Chekhov’s The Seagull, in collaboration with a suicide prevention organization to promote mental health awareness through the arts.
Production Details:
- Rehearsals: Begin mid-July (flexible and adaptable schedule)
- Performances: Early August (limited weekend run)
- Location: Milwaukee, WI
- Compensation: A small stipend will be provided at the end of the production run
- Housing: Not provided
About the Production:
This production of The Seagull embraces a minimalist set design, using evocative spaces rather than traditional scenery to create an intimate, emotionally driven experience. While the setting remains contemporary, the production remains true to Chekhov’s exploration of art, love, and longing.
Submission Requirements:
- A video audition including:
- A monologue from any Chekhov play (under 2 minutes)
- A slate with: Name, where you are based, and the monologue selection
- A current headshot and résumé

Available Roles:
- Konstantin Treplev – An aspiring playwright, deeply introspective and tormented by self-doubt.
- Nina Zarechnaya – A young actress full of idealism and longing, transformed by life’s hardships.
- Irina Arkadina – A famous actress, charismatic yet self-centered and controlling.
- Boris Trigorin – A successful writer, emotionally detached but alluring.
- Petr Sorin – Arkadina’s aging brother, nostalgic and yearning for lost dreams.
- Masha – Sarcastic and darkly humorous, masking her pain with cynicism.
- Medvedenko – A humble schoolteacher, longing for love and stability.
- Dorn – A doctor, wise yet emotionally distant.
- Shamrayev – A pragmatic estate manager, brusque but reliable.
- Paulina – Masha’s mother, trapped in unfulfilled love and regret.
- Yakov & Other Ensemble Roles – Estate workers, townsfolk, and atmospheric presences.
