Freeport Players needs singers to join the cast of THE MIKADO, performing at Freeport Performing Arts Center July 19 - August 5. We have two featured roles to fill (PISH-TUSH, a bass with a solo, and GO-TO, a baritone with a few lines), and we need a whole lot more singers for the CHORUS (especially basses and tenors, but we need altos and sopranos, too). Gilbert & Sullivan operettas rely heavily on the chorus, so these are very important roles to fill!
Anyone interested in joining the cast is invited to the kickoff rehearsal this Friday, May 19, 7pm at Freeport Performing Arts Center, 30 Holbrook St, Freeport. No audition necessary to join the chorus. We are working to reduce the time commitment for chorus members to a bare minimum, with the option to take on more responsibility -- and get more of the spotlight, more of the fun! -- if you want to. We believe the minimum commitment will be one 3-hr rehearsal per week beginning next week (likely Sundays); rehearsals every evening in the days leading up to opening night (Sunday 7/14 - Wednesday 7/18); 10 performances over 3 weekends 7/19 - 8/5; and some time working on your own to memorize songs. We may be able to accommodate folks who can make the rehearsals but can't commit to all three weekends of performances. (Pish-Tush and Go-To will be needed for additional rehearsals and must be available for all performances.)
If you want to join the cast but can't be there Friday or have concerns about the schedule or time commitent, please contact Elizabeth at
info@fcponline.org or 865-2220 to discuss your options.
