The Gamm Theatre Announces Auditions for Season 35 (2019-2020)

The Sandra Feinstein-Gamm Theatre (The Gamm) will hold auditions for its 35th season as follows: Equity Principal Auditions will be held on Saturday April 13 from 11am-3pm, and Sunday April 14 from 10am-1:30pm and 2 pm-5:30 pm; and on Monday April 15 from 10am–1:30pm and 2pm-5:30 pm. Equity members without appointments will be seen throughout each audition day, as time permits. Non-Equity performers may also audition. Audition slots are limited, however. Auditions will take place at The Gamm Theatre, 1245 Jefferson Blvd., Warwick, RI.

The Gamm is looking to cast roles in the following plays of the 2019-2020 Season, which starts performances in September and runs through May. The available roles are:

A Doll’s House, Part 2 by Lucas Hnath, directed by TBD

Rehearsals begin August 20, 2019. Runs September 12-October 6, 2019

  • Nora, 50
  • Torvald, 50, Nora’s husband
  • Anne Marie, 60-70, long-time family servant/nanny
  • Emmy, 20-25, Nora and Torvald’s daughter

An Octoroon by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, directed by TBD

Rehearsals begin October 1, 2019. Runs October 24-November 17, 2019

  • BJJ/George/M’Closky, played by an African American actor or black actor
  • Playwright/Wahnotee/LaFouche, played by a white actor or an actor who can pass as white
  • Assistant/Pete/Paul, played by a Native American actor, a mixed race actor, a South Asian actor or one who can pass as Native American
  • Zoe, played by an octoroon actress, a white actress, a quadroon actress, a biracial actress, or an an actress of a color who can pass as an octoroon
  • Dora, played by a white actress or an actress who can pass as white
  • Minnie, played by a black actress, African American actress or an actress of color
  • Dido, played by a black actress, African American actress or an actress of color
  • Grace, played by a black actress, African American actress or an actress of color

  • Tenkei, a Buddhist nun

All roles will be doubled except for Mary Jane.

It’s A Wonderful Life, A Radio Play by Joe Landry directed by TBD

Rehearsals begin November 12, 2019. Runs December 5-December 22, 2019

  • Freddie Filmore, 50s, stentorian
  • Jake Laurents, 30-40, plays George Bailey
  • Sally Applewhite, 30-40, plays Mary
  • Lana Sherwood, 40- 50
  • Harry “Jazzbo” Heywood, 50s, plays Clarence

All performers must play multiple characters. Vocal virtuosity is a must.

Each performer will be allotted a minimum of 3 minutes and a maximum of 5 minutes. We ask that all performers prepare a1-2 minute monologue of their choice. If you want to be considered for Assassins, please also prepare 16 bars of a song from the musical theater repertoire. There will be no accompaniment, so prepare to sing a capella or provide your own recording. Only Equity performers may choose to read from a script. The Gamm will provide sides and a reader. AEA members who wish to read a side are encouraged to prepare their own and either bring a copy for the reader or let us know the scene/page numbers upon check–in so we may be prepared to assist you.

Callbacks for individual plays are TBD.

Please also provide a copy of your headshot/resume at the time of your audition. Two copies of each play will be available at Stage Source's Boston office, 15 Channel Center, Ste. 103, Boston, Mass., at least 10 days before the audition for Equity members' perusal. Copies will also be available at the auditions.

Artistic Director Tony Estrella will be attending all auditions. Minimum weekly salary for Equity actors is $545. Minimum weekly salary for Equity stage managers is $653.
