The Gamm Theatre Announces Auditions for Season 34 (2018-2019)

The Sandra Feinstein-Gamm Theatre (The Gamm) will hold auditions for its 34th season as follows: Equity Principal Auditions for adult actors will be held on Saturday April 28 and Monday April 30 from 10 am–1:30 pm and 2 pm-5:30 pm. Equity members without appointments will be seen throughout each audition day, as time permits. Non-Equity performers may also audition. Audition slots are limited, however. Auditions will take place at The Gamm Theatre, 172 Exchange St., Pawtucket, RI.

The Gamm is looking to cast various roles in the following plays of the 2018-2019 Season, which starts performances in September and runs through May.

Note: The Gamm embraces Non-Traditional Casting. As encouraged by AEA, “Non-Traditional Casting is designed to increase artistic options by expanding casting opportunities for women, actors of color, seniors and actors with disabilities in roles where race, gender, age or the presence or absence of a disabililty are not germane.”

The following roles are available:

THE NIGHT OF THE IGUANA by Tennessee Williams, directed by Fred Sullivan, Jr.

Rehearsals begin mid/late August, performances begin mid/late September through mid/late October 2018. Exact dates TBD.

Roles:

HANNAH JELKES and T. LAWRENCE SHANNON have been cast.

NONNO – Hannah’s grandfather. The world’s oldest living poet.

MAXINE FAULK– 50ish, tough, smart, a powerhouse. Owner of the “resort.”

CHAROLTTE GOODALL– Young woman. A vacationer on Lawrence’s tour. Should read 16 years old.

JUDITH FELLOWES – 40s-50s. Charlotte’s chaperone.

HERR & FRAU FAHRENKOPF – 40-50s. German Tourists at the resort.

HANK – The Tour’s bus driver. Haggard, tough.

PEDRO & PANCHO – Mexican, young men. Employed at the resort.

GLORIA by Brandon Jacobs-Jenkins, directed by TBD

Rehearsals begin mid/late October. Runs November-early December 2018. Exact dates TBD.

Roles:

DEAN / DEVIN – extra-late 20s, white

KENDRA / JENNA – mid/late 20s, Asian

ANI / SASHA / CALLIE – early 20s, white

GLORIA / NAN – extra-late 30s, anything really

MILES / SHAWN / RASHAAD – 20 years old, black

LORIN – late 30s, unclear

THE NIGHT WATCH by Hattie Naylor, adapted from the novel by Sarah Waters, directed by TBD
Rehearsals begin mid-December. Runs mid-January to mid-February 2019. Exact dates TBD.

Roles:

KAY LANGRISH – 25-35 . Brave, sensitive. Not “traditionally feminine.” A loner and ambulance driver.

JULIA STANDING (doubles as MRS. LEONARD) – 25-35. A writer. Enigmatic, magnetic.

HORACE MUNDY (doubles as MR. WILSON) – 55-70. Sickly, kind. Former prison warder.

DUNCAN PEARCE – 20-30. Sensitive, a conscientious objector during the war.

HELEN GINIVER – 25-35. Runs a dating service with Viv, Julia’s lover. Disatisfied.

VIV PEARCE – 25-35. On the bad end of an affair. Disappointed, searching.

ROBERT FRASER (doubles as COLE) – 20-30. Journalist. Old friend of Duncan’s.

MICKEY (doubles as MRS. ALEXANDER) – 25-40. Works the ambulances with Kay. Fierce, funny.

The story of Night Watch runs backward in time from 1947 to 1941 in London during the blitz and its aftermath. British accents a must.

ESCAPED ALONE by Caryl Churchill & COME & GO by Samuel Beckett, directed by TBD

Rehearsals begin mid-Februray. Runs March/early April, 2019. Exact dates TBD.

Roles:

The following characters are women. “They are all at least 70,” Caryl Churchill.

VI

LENA

MRS. JARRET

British accents a must. The actors playing Sally, Vi and Lena will also play Flo, Vi and Ru in COME & GO.

TRUE WEST by Sam Shepard, directed by TBD

Rehearsals begin in March. Runs April/May 2019. Exact dates TBD.

Roles:

LEE – 35-45. Tough, undpredicatble to put it mildly. Has been living in the desert and fighting pitbulls. Enough said.

AUSTIN – early 30s. Lee’s younger, professional brother. A moderately successful writer.

SAUL – 40s-50s. A movie producer.

MOM – 60s-70s. Lee and Austin’s mother.

Each performer will be allotted a minimum of 3 minutes and a maximum of 5 minutes. We ask that all performers prepare a 1-2 minute monologue of their choice. Only Equity Performers may choose to read from a script. The Gamm will provide sides on the day of audition and a reader. AEA members who wish to read a side may prepare their own and either provide us with a copy for the reader or let us know upon check-in the scene/page numbers so we may be prepared to assist you.

Callbacks for individual plays are TBD.

Please also provide a copy of your headshot/resume at the time of your audition. Two copies of each play will be available at Stage Source's Boston office, 15 Channel Center, Ste. 103, Boston, Mass., at least 10 days before the audition for Equity members' perusal. Copies will also be available at the auditions.

Artistic Director Tony Estrella will be attending all auditions. Minimum weekly salary for Equity actors is $425. Minimum weekly salary for Equity stage managers is $509.
