Auditions for The Bridges of Madison County
Elmwood Playhouse in Nyack, NY will be holding auditions for its upcoming production of The Bridges of Madison County, written by Marsha Norma with Music and Lyrics by Jason Robert Brown. It will be directed by Claudia Stefany and music directed by Tony Bellomy. The Bridges of Madison County is the musical based on the best selling novel by Robert James Waller.
AUDITIONS: Wednesday, August 23 at 7:30pm and Thursday, August 24 at 7:30pm
CALLBACKS: Monday, August 28 at 7:30pm (by invitation only)
PERFORMANCES: Friday, November 10 thru Saturday, December 9(Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays with possible Wednesday and Thursdays)
SHOW DESCRIPTION:
It is the summer of 1965 in Iowa. Robert Kincaid, a ruggedly handsome National Geographic photographer, stops to ask Francesca Johnson directions. She is alone while her family is at the State Fair, and they become caught between duty and desire.
CAST REQUIREMENTS: (4 Females, 4 Males, 7 Ensemble members)
AUDITION DETAILS: Prepare a 32 bar contemporary musical theater song (Pasek & Paul, Adam Guettel, Michael John LaChiusa, William Finn, etc.) in the correct key. An accompanist will be provided. If possible, please bring a headshot and resume. Actors who are called back will be asked to read sides from the script and sing excerpts of songs from the show so a familiarity with the ‘Bridges’ score will be helpful.
FRANCESCA JOHNSON: Age 35-45. A beautiful Italian woman. Generous, luminous and funny. Married to an Iowa farm wife and the mother of two. Soprano
MARGE :Age 55-65. Francesca’s neighbor. Sassy, nosy but really the salt of the Earth. Married to Charlie. Alto
CAROLYN JOHNSON- Age 14-16. Daughter of ‘Bud’ and Francesca and sister to Michael. She longs to know more about the world beyond Iowa. Soprano
MARIAN/CHIARA: Age 35-45. Marian-Robert’s former wife, a musician.
Chiara- Francesca’s sister still living in Italy. With a checkered past on her 4th husband. Mezzo Soprano
RICHARD ‘BUD’ JOHNSON: Age 40-50. Francesca’s husband. An Iowan farmer, a good guy, diligent and dependable, always exhausted and irked that life hasn’t gotten easier. Baritone
ROBERT KINCAID: Age 40-50. A ruggedly handsome, worldly, visionary photographer. Baritone
MICHAEL JOHNSON: Age 16-18. Francesca and ‘Bud’s’ son. He doesn’t want to be a farmer like his father which causes friction between them. Tenor
CHARLIE: Age 60-70. Marge’s husband. Good friend to the Johnson family and realizes his wife is who she is and loves her in spite of it. Bass
ENSEMBLE : Various ages. 7 men and women to play the townspeople and neighbors of Winterset, Iowa- a waitress, State Fair Patrons, a State Fair singer, Ginny, Adult Michael Johnson, Adult Carolyn Johnson et al. The ensemble will be an integral part of the story telling of the show.
