The Sherman Playhouse Holds Auditions for
Molière's
Tartuffe
March 1 & 2
The Sherman Playhouse is holding a casting call for three male actors to be featured in Molière's popular 17th Century comedy, Tartuffe.
The production is seeking male actors for the roles of Orgon (age 40 to 50), Cléante (age 20 to 50), and Damis (age 20 to 30).
Auditions are Tuesday, March 1, and Wednesday, March 2, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at The Sherman Playhouse, 5 Route 39 North (next to the fire station), in Sherman, CT.
Tartuffe is one of Molière's most masterful and popular plays. Its central character is a rich bourgeois named Orgon, who in middle age has become a bigot and prude. By affecting sanctity, Tartuffe, a wily opportunist and swindler, gains complete ascendancy over Orgon, who not only makes over his fortune but offers his daughter in marriage to his spiritual master.
No appointments are necessary to audition. Auditioners are asked to arrive as early as possible. Sign-ups are in the green room around the back of the Playhouse. Tartuffe runs July 8 to 31. The show is under the direction of Paul J. Tines. Tines the Assistant Head of School for Advancement and Dean of the Arts at the Marvelwood boarding and day school in Kent, CT. Previously, Tines served as Dean of the Arts at the Isidore Newman School inNew Orleans. Among other previous efforts, Tines was the executive director of Broadway Asia Entertainment, establishing musical theater academies in China and South Korea. He has created arts curricula for the Edison Project in New York City and has performed arts consultation for independent schools.
