ABOUT THE SHOW
She’s an actress who hasn’t worked in a while. He’s an actor she hasn’t seen in years. And they’re paired during the revival of a forgotten 1932 melodrama. It was an overwrought flop – and so were they, years ago. But during rehearsals, as they play reunited lovers in a doomed romance, they’re drawn back together. And as they fall under the spell of the romance they’re acting out onstage, they quickly lose touch with reality as the story follows them offstage. Is it art imitating life – or life imitating art – in this play within a play? Saucy and a little surreal, STAGE KISS is a wickedly witty romantic comedy.

ROLES AVAILABLE

She: She/her. Age 40-50. An actress who has come back to the theatre after 20 years. Attractive, outgoing, keen but nervous about her return to the stage, especially when her romantic male lead turns out to be her former lover.

He: He/him. Age 40-50. An actor who dwells on reigniting his past romance with She. Often confuses the characters in the play with real life. Dashing and knows it.

Director: He/him. Age 30-70. Very confident, somewhat neurotic, eager to please. He minimally directs and fancies himself as a playwright.

Kevin: He/him. Age 20-60. The Reader. Also plays the understudy, the doctor, the butler, and the pimp. Not a great actor in any of these roles. Is especially uncomfortable standing in for He in romantic kissing scenes. A very hard worker.

Husband/Harrison: He/him. Age 40-60. A sincere man, plays the Husband in the initial play within the play. Later plays Harrison, the real-life husband of She, a safe and forgiving man.

Millie/Maid/Angela: She/her. Age 20s. Multiple character roles, including She's 16-year-old daughter, who has a real attitude. Has a deep complexity while discovering life. Several significant speeches.

Millicent/Laurie: She/her. Age 25-40. Mostly plays Laurie, He's schoolteacher girlfriend. A sincere and naive young woman. Spiritual. Takes a while to realize she has been dumped.
