Elmwood Playhouse in Nyack NY will be holding auditions for its upcoming production of “Sweat“, written by Lynn Nottage and directed by Kathleen Mahan.
AUDITIONS: Sunday, February 27, 2022 at 6:00 pm and Tuesday March 1, 2022 at 7:00 pm.
CALLBACKS: Wednesday March 2, 2022 7:00 pm (by invitation only)
PERFORMANCES: May 13, 2022 thru June 4, 2022 (Friday and Saturday evenings and Sunday matinees, plus some possible Thursdays)
SHOW DESCRIPTION:
Filled with warm humor and tremendous heart, SWEAT tells the story of a group of friends in Reading, Pennsylvania. They have spent their lives sharing drinks, secrets, and laughs while working together on the factory floor. But when layoffs and picket lines begin to chip away at their trust, the friends find themselves pitted against each other in a heart-wrenching struggle to stay afloat. SWEAT was the winner of the 2017 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
CAST REQUIREMENTS:
Most characters work, used to work, or want to work at the factory, and are seen in the years 2000 and 2008.
Cynthia. 45/53. Black Female. After two decades on the factory floor, she is promoted to management.
Tracey. 45/53. White, Female. Her close friendship with Cynthia is strained after Cynthia’s promotion.
Chris. 21/29. Black, Male. Tracey’s son and Jason’s best friend. Aspires to college and a new life.
Jason. 21/29. White, Male. Cynthia’s son and Chris’s best friend. Wants to ride his cycle and have fun.
Jessie. Early/late 40s. White, Female. Used to dream, now mostly just works and drinks.
Stan. Early/late 50s. White, Male. After a serious injury on the factory floor, he now tends bar and listens.
Oscar. Hispanic (Colombian), Male. 22/30. Busses tables at the bar but hopes someday to work at the factory.
Brucie. 40s. Black, Male. Cynthia’s estranged husband. Two years on strike from another plant. An addict.
Evan. 40s. Black, Male. A parole officer who can in turns be compassionate, angry and exhausted.
