Spanish Lyric Theatre and SLT Productions, the nation's oldest Hispanic theatre company and the longest running theatre in the greater Tampa Bay Area, is pleased to announce general auditions for its 2014-15 Season presented by TheatreWorld Backdrops.

SLT performs its Broadway musical offerings in English and also offers Spanish language productions through the season.

SLT is a professional, non-Equity theatre company. Principals and supporting roles receive stipends. All cast members participate in a revenue sharing arrangement.

The main stage season opens with MUSIC OF THE KNIGHT: THE SONGS OF SIR ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER & FRIENDS, a theatrical cabaret originally conceived by Interim Artistic Director, Michael Mathews and longtime SLT performer/director, Jorge Acosta, which enjoyed tremendous success during its previous Florida tours under Mathews' direction. Next comes the smash hit FOUR GUYS NAMED JOSE... AND A MUJER NAMED MARIA which was produced Off-Broadway by Latin pop-music artist, Enrique Iglesias. Finally, the biggest show of our season will be SHREK THE MUSICAL making its professional, non-equity Tampa Bay debut. The show features a huge cast, lavish production values, and, of course, everyone's favorite ogre.

MUSIC OF THE KNIGHT is directed by Michael Mathews. FOUR GUYS NAMED JOSE… AND A MUJER NAMED MARIA and SHREK are directed by Derek Baxter.

SLT is seeking a multi-ethnic cast of actors, singers, and dancers. All roles require singing ability. All roles are open.

SLT intends to minimally cast principals and supporting roles from these general auditions. Supplemental auditions may be held at a later date based on the director’s discretion to round out the ensemble or for any role that was unable to be cast at these general auditions.

Please prepare 16 bars each of two (2) contrasting songs in the Broadway musical vein similar to the shows/roles you are auditioning for that demonstrate your vocal strengths and versatility. Please prepare 16 bars of a 3rd song in Spanish if you are auditioning for FOUR GUYS NAMED JOSE… AND A MUJER NAMED MARIA. An accompanist will be provided. Please bring sheet music in your appropriate key(s). Be prepared to dance and bring appropriate attire. *** NOTE: If you are auditioning for the role of Fiona in SHREK, you WILL be required to participate in a tap audition. ***

SPANISH LYRIC THEATRE'S 2014-2015 MAINSTAGE SEASON:

MUSIC OF THE KNIGHT: THE SONGS OF SIR ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER & FRIENDS
January 24-25, 2015 | Centro Asturiano De Tampa Grand Ballroom
A musical showcase of Broadway's biggest and most well-known composer, as well as music of those who have clearly defined the modern day Broadway phenomenon! Join us for an intimate night as we span the hit songs in the career of this musical genius who single handedly changed the history of the Broadway musical time and time again. MUSIC OF THE KNIGHT features musical selections from Lloyd Webber’s smash hits such as Evita, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Jesus Christ Superstar, Aspects of Love, and The Phantom of the Opera. Our performers also showcase best-known music from his colleagues such as Stephen Schwartz, Alan Menken, John Kander & Fred Ebb and Elton John, successful composers in their own right, whose productions have been directly influenced by the standards set by Lloyd Webber.

FOUR GUYS NAMED JOSE... AND A MUJER NAMED MARIA
March 13-15, 2015 | HCC Ybor Main Theatre
A musical celebration of the rich and vibrant history of Latin America. 4 GUYS NAMED JOSE... AND A MUJER NAMED MARIA! was an off-Broadway smash hit produced by Latin singing sensation Enrique Iglesias. Paying tribute to the infectious rhythms of Latin music throughout the ages, this spicy show serves up non-stop laughs, intoxicating melodies and a journey through love, loss, nostalgia for one's homeland, and the sheer joy of song. Four young Latino men have a chance meeting at Burrito World in Omaha and discover they share the same name! Even though their ancestral roots differ (Puerto Rico, Cuba, Mexico and the Dominican Republic), they share a common dream: to stage a show of Latin standards that puts forth a positive image to counteract Latino stereotypes. Enter Maria, a beautiful woman whose vivaciousness entices the gentlemen, causing them to vie for her attention. And the evening's only just begun! Don't miss this wild ride of a show that features some of the most evocative Latin music including standards like "La Bamba", "Guantanamera", "I Like It Like That", and "Bang Bang/Oye Como Va" are featured in this hip-swishing score.

SHREK THE MUSICAL
May 21-24, 2015 | HCC Ybor Main Theatre
Everyone's favorite ogre is back in the hilarious stage spectacle based on the Oscar-winning smash hit film. Based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film, SHREK THE MUSICAL is a TONY Award-winning fairy tale adventure featuring all new songs from Jeanine Tesori (Thoroughly Modern Millie, Caroline or Change) and a sidesplitting book by David Lindsay-Abaire. SHREK brings all the beloved characters you know from the film to life on stage, and proves there's more to the story than meets the ears. "Once upon a time, there was a little ogre named Shrek…” And thus begins the tale of an unlikely hero who finds himself on a life-changing journey alongside a wisecracking Donkey and a feisty princess who resists her rescue. Throw in a short tempered bad guy, a cookie with an attitude, and over a dozen other fairy tale misfits, and you’ve got the kind of mess that calls for a real hero. Luckily, there's one on hand...and his name is Shrek.
