Songs For A New World is a powerful, tour de force jewel box of a musical and the perfect balm for this new and sometimes hard to navigate world. In a series of illuminating narrative songs juxtaposed against the backdrop of the past 18+ months, Songs For A New World is a powerful blend of pop, gospel and jazz weaving characters and history together, revealing the timelessness of life, love and the choices we make. CAST REQUIREMENTS: (3 Men, 3 Women – Seeking performers of all ethnicities, races and gender identities with strong voices and storytelling skills.)
MAN 1: Commanding and passionate pop vocal powerhouse with strong upper range. Tenor.
Ages 18-40. MAN 2: Charming and compelling leading actor. Baritone. Ages. 30-55. MAN 3: A singer/actor with the ability to make an audience ‘lean in’. Baritone. Ages 40-60. WOMAN 1: Smart and vulnerable with stunning pop vocals. Soprano. Ages 18-35. WOMAN 2: Character actor with great comedic timing and dramatic capabilities. Alto/Belter.
Ages 35-65. WOMAN 3: Strong and compassionate. A true storyteller. Mezzo. Ages 20-35. NO APPOINTMENTS NECESSARY. You will be seen on a first come, first served basis. Please prepare a 32- bar cut (or equivalent of about 1 minute of music) of a Contemporary Musical Theater or Pop song. Depending on time, we may ask you to sing more of your audition song or ask you to vocalize to test your range. An accompanist will be provided. Please bring your clearly labeled sheet music in a book or a binder, and be ready to communicate any cuts or tempo changes to the accompanist. Auditions will be at Elmwood Playhouse, 10 Park Street, Nyack, NY 10960. We ask that you enter through the front door into the lobby. You will sign in, show proof of vaccination, and then sit masked and socially distanced in the theater until called into the Sorkin Studio for your audition. Please provide a resume and headshot if you have one. Sides from the script will be made available at the audition. All roles available. Casting is open to all.
