SHREK THE MUSICAL JR. BRINGS ITS ‘BIG, BRIGHT, BEAUTIFUL WORLD’
TO THE J’S PERFORMING ARTS SPACE THIS SPRING

Auditions for Junior and Senior Cast Held January 15 & 16, 2017

The fairytale misfit adventure, Shrek The Musical Jr., comes to life on the Dallas stage this March and April 2017 with The J’s Performing Art Space (
JPAS) two-cast productions of the adaptation of the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film. Auditions for the Junior Cast (ages 6-10 years old) will be held on Sunday, January 15 from 1 to 5:30 p.m. and Senior Cast auditions (ages 11-18 years old) will be held on Monday, January, 16 from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. All auditions will take place in Zale Auditorium at the Aaron Family Jewish Community Center, 7900 Northaven Road in Dallas. All actors must
register online and fill out an
audition form in advance, bring a headshot (does not have to be professional quality) and be prepared to sing one of four song choices from Shrek The Musical Jr.

“Our program continues to get bigger and better exposing more and more children and teens to the power and magic of the performing arts,” said Alise Robinson, manager of JPAS. “In particular, Shrek The Musical Jr. has the opportunity for an abundance of over-the-top roles and the ability to expand the cast so that everyone gets an opportunity to shine on stage. It’s also a wonderful story about finding acceptance, something we hope will resonate with our actors and audience alike.”

Cost for registration, which includes more than 50 hours of rehearsals, an opportunity to work with some of the finest teachers in the creative arts industry and the experience of a lifetime, is $525 for members and $595 for non-members from December 1, 2016 through January 16, 2017. However, an Early Bird Registration with a savings of 10% is available through November 30, 2016. Each participant will receive one free adult ticket to a future performance. Registration is available
online or by contacting Alise Robinson at
(214) 239-7140 or
arobinson@jccdallas.org. Advanced registration is highly recommended to ensure an audition slot since both auditions days will have limited availability.

Back again this year is JPAS SHOW YOUR TALENT. Beginning December 1, performers ages 6 to 16 are invited to submit a performance that could help them win a free Shrek The Musical Jr. registration. Each contestant can submit a YouTube or Vimeo link showcasing their best musical song or dancing performance to the
JCC Dallas Facebook page through December 18. The voting period will be held from December 18 - 30. Facebook fans will decide the winning entry and the winner will be announced on January 5, 2017. For a complete list of rules and requirements, please visit the
JCC Dallas Facebook page. Please note: if anyone is registered to be in Shrek The Musical Jr. and is proclaimed the winner of JPAS SHOW YOUR TALENT, The J will reimburse the full registration cost.

JPAS is unique in that it focuses on education, performing and learning 21st century life skills. It’s not just about the performance. The actors don't just run through lines, learn their marks and follow the director's lead. JPAS actors learn about intentions, how to be part of an ensemble, collaboration, movement techniques and coordination, listening and social skills, and the power of their voices. Additionally, JPAS hires the best directors, musical directors and choreographers in North Texas who have a background in making young actors more well-rounded, and confident in themselves and who will increase their talents to new heights. When JPAS actors finish the production, the goal is for them to have a new-found set of skills that they can use not only use on the stage but in life.

Shrek The Musical Jr. will have six performances in Zale Auditorium at the Aaron Family Jewish Community Center. The Junior Cast performs on Thursday, March 23, 2017 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, March 26, 2017 at 2 and 7 p.m. The Senior Cast performs on Thursday, March 30, 2017 at 7 p.m., on Saturday, April 1, 2017, at 8 p.m. and on Sunday, April 2 at 2 p.m. For parent meeting information, rehearsal schedules, tech week times and dates and additional information, please visit the JPAS
