Theatre Memphis Announces Auditions for ShoWagon
ShoWagon,Theatre Memphis’ resident touring group, is looking to fill positions for the upcoming season. An integral part of the Department of Outreach and Education at Theatre Memphis, ShoWagon has been performing for students and children across the Mid-south for over 30 years. Begun as a community outreach program, ShoWagon is a children’s theatre company made up of professional actors. These teaching artists are dedicated to bringing classic and new works of literature to life while providing a knowledge and experience base from which educators can draw inspiration. In a given year, ShoWagon will touch the lives of over 10,000 children in our community.
ShoWagon is looking for 3 actors/actresses. Actors must be expressive, hard-working, easy to work with, take direction well, work well in an ensemble, and comfortable performing and instructing children of all ages. Daytime schedule must be flexible.
Applicant must be self motivated, able to learn lesson plans and implement them, to learn productions and tour in a short period of time, to take instruction,get along well with others and have a reliable form of transportation.
Applicant must be available to tour from 6am-5pm (call times vary)
- Schools book from early morning till dismissal
- Evening performance and availability will be needed on certain occasions
- Applicant will be notified well in advance (at least 2 weeks) of schedule
and call times
Applicant must be 21 years of age
Applicant may have an evening job
Applicant must be able to travel outside Shelby County
The contract runs August, 2013-July 31, 2014 and duties will include a variety of responsibilities such as:
Learning & Performing 3 touring productions that tour all year
Library performances (Spring & Summer Tour)
Rehearsing/Performing in the student matinees of A Christmas Carol
Children’s Theatre Festival
Teaching & Assisting Writing Residencies
Teaching & Assisting with The Grizzlies Team Up Mentoring Program
Teaching & Assisting with The Peacemakers of the Caritas Village
Writing Scripts & Directing for The Grizzlies Team Up Mentoring Program
Actors will be used as teachers as well during education residencies in the schools. Actors will be called upon to take part in community arts events as well as the daytime version of A Christmas Carol. The position pays $10 an hour, including rehearsals. It is part-time.
