Auditions for staged reading of John Patrick Shanley's Savage in Limbo. Directed by Jennifer Pierce.
An arresting and brilliantly inventive play which moves from comedy to near tragedy as it explores the hopes and dreams of a group of rootless young "losers" who congregate in an anonymous Bronx bar, hoping to find respite from the drabness of their lives.
AUDITION DETAILS:
Auditions will be held Thursday, March 22 at 7:00pm in the basement of the Main Performance Building.
Actors will be asked to read sides and there will be a brief workshop in both "Reader's Theater" style performance and the Bronx dialect. (Da Bronx.)
Seeking 3 females, 2 males:
MURK: A big man, but baby faced, and possibly red-headed. He has no sense of humor. He has a wooden foot.
APRIL WHITE: A beat-up, tired, vulnerable woman with beautiful, damaged eyes. She can go from serenity to hysteria without showing a seam.
DENISE SAVAGE: small, wild haired, strong, belligerent, determined, dissatisfied, and scared. She is in pain, paranoid, and full of hunger.
She has hungry ears.
LINDA ROTUNDA. A done-up attractive, overripe Italian woman. She pronounces the name Anthony as "Antony" and the word vigin as "version."
She is physically very womanly and very strong.
TONY ARONICA: A streamlined Italian stud with a streak of self-doubt and a yearning sweetness.
The reading will be performed on Sunday, April 1, at 7:00pm.
There will also be a brief multi-media presentation given by Dr. Jennifer Pierce on the work of playwright, screenwriter, and director John Patrick Shanley, author of Doubt, followed by this reader's theater performance of Savage in Limbo.
