problem. If you are unable to sign up in advance, you may drop in during the
audition, however, be prepared to wait. Audition Forms: Please print and

ADDRESS & LOCATION:

-Parking and Building Location: Park in the "West Garage" located across
from the HVPA building.)

AUDITION DETAILS:
-We seek singers who move well and strong featured dancers.
-Prepare 16-32 bars of a song in the style of the show - no pop, rock or
Sondheim.
-Bring sheet music, an accompanist will be provided.
-Come to the audition warm and ready to sing/move.
-Wear clothing suitable for a dance audition.
-Bring Headshot/Resume. Please include vocal range, any instruments played,
and musical training/background.
-Conflicts: You must be prepared to list all conflicts between February 16,
2014 - May 18, 2014. All conflicts must be presented at the audition.
-No scripts or score materials will be available prior to auditions.
-Please plan to stay for the duration of the scheduled audition time block.
If we can release you sooner we will.
-Callback: Monday, February 10, 2014, 7 - 10pm
REHEARSAL & PERFORMANCE COMMITMENT:
-Rehearsals begin the week of February 16, 2014.
-The rehearsal schedule will be determined after the casting process and
will be based on cast/director/choreographer availability.
-Rehearsals will take place during weekday evenings and/or weekend mornings
or afternoons.
-Performance Commitment: May 8 - 18, 2014, May 8, 9, 10, 11, and May 15, 16,
17, 18.

Theatre, Columbia, MD
CASTING:
The Cast consists of 20 or more. See Character Breakdown below. All roles
are non-paid. Ragtime includes a fabulously diverse cast of all ages and
ethnicities. Two children needed: one girl and one boy. Principal
roles are supported by a versatile ensemble which will play several roles
throughout. We seek actors who are strong singers and can move well.
CHARACTER BREAKDOWN:
+BOOKER T. WASHINGTON: A dominant figure in the Black community of the U.S.
at the turn of the century - 45-55 yrs old (C4-E5).
+ENSEMBLE: To play a plethora of rich, diverse, supporting roles throughout
the entire show - Various ages.
+COALHOUSE: A proud, sophisticated man who fights to live within his social
boundaries and then rebels against them when even that is not good enough -
25-35 yrs old (G3-B5).
+EMMA GOLDMAN: The Russian born radical anarchist in early 1900's New York
City - 30-40 yrs old (E3-D5).
+EVELYN NESBIT: The beautiful vaudeville performer, famous for the murder of
her high profile lover - 18-25 yrs old (B3-D5).
+FATHER: Rich. Conservative. Staunch in his ways but not intentionally
unkind. - 30-45 yrs old (A3-F5).
+GRANDFATHER: Mother's conservative father. A retired professor. Irritated
by everything. - 50-65 yrs old.
+HENRY FORD: An American industrialist and founder of the Ford Motor
Company - 35-45 yrs old (D4-F5).
+HOUDINI: The famous magician, escape artist who immigrated to the U.S. -
25-35 yrs old (C4-G5).
+J.P. MORGAN: The rich, famous financier - 60-65 yrs old (D4-E5).
+LITTLE GIRL: Tateh's daughter, a young Latvian girl in a new home - 7-10
yrs old (C4-D5).
+MOTHER: A strong, kind woman who defies social norms to do the things she
feels are right - 25-35 yrs old (G3-E5).
+SARAH: A washwoman who is adopted into Mother's home when Mother finds
Sarah's baby in the garden - 18-25 yrs old (G3-F5).
+SARAH'S FRIEND: A friend of Sarah's who attends her funeral - 18-25 yrs
old (D3-D5).
+TATEH: A haggard, Latvian immigrant who dreams the "American Dream" for
himself and his daughter -30-40 yrs old (A3-F5).
+WILLIE CONKLIN: A racist volunteer fireman who destroys Coalhouse's car -
25-40 yrs old (D4-F5).
+YOUNGER BROTHER: Mother's younger brother who has his heart broken by
Evelyn Nesbit and joins Coalhouse in his protests towards discrimination. He
is a young man in search of something. - 20-30 yrs old (B3-F5).
