Dates and Times: - Auditions: Thursday July 12 & Monday July 16 - 7:00pm-10:00pm

Call Back: The evening of Tuesday July 17

Rehearsals will begin early September

Show Dates: October 25, 26, 27, 28 and November 1, 2, 3, 4, 2012 (Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays at 8pm and Sundays at 3pm) (Performances will take place at Slayton House, Columbia, MD) Audition

APPOINTMENTS: - Auditionees will be scheduled by groups in half-hour increments. - Email your full name, contact information and top 3 date/ time choices (per half-hour) to <mailto:rentauditionappointment@gmail.com> rentauditionappointment@gmail.com - Confirmation will follow within 48 hours The Cast: (see character breakdown below) Rent includes a diverse cast of 5 Men, 3 Women, Ensemble 6+ - Ages 18 and up. All roles are non-paid.

Audition DETAILS: - Auditions include singing only - (Call Backs will include acting, dancing and singing) - 24 bars of music (memorized) - 90's Rock, Pop or a song from a contemporary musical, including RENT. (Music styles include rock, blues, gospel, disco and Latin.) - Bring sheet music. An accompanist will be provided. Accompanying yourself on guitar or other instrument is welcome. Singing a cappella is acceptable. - Headshots/Resumes: Please share vocal range, instruments played, and musical training/background. -

Conflicts: Be prepared to list all conflicts from Sept 1 until closing, Nov 4. - No scripts or score materials will be available before auditions. COMMITMENT: - Rehearsals will begin early September - The rehearsal schedule will be determined after the casting process and will be based on cast/director/ choreographer availability. - Rehearsals will only take place during weekday evenings and/or weekend mornings or afternoons. - Tech Week: The entire cast must be available during Tech Week, which begins the weekend before the show [October 19, 20, 21] and continues each evening [October 22, 23, 24] until opening night - THURSDAY, OCT 25. -

RENT follows a year in the life of a group of friends struggling to make it in the big city. They include Mark, a filmmaker and the narrator of the story; his former girlfriend, Maureen, a performance artist; Maureen's lover, Joanne, a public interest lawyer; Mark's roommate Roger, a musician; Mimi, an exotic dancer, with whom Roger falls in love; Tom Collins, a computer genius; Collins' lover, Angel, a street musician and drag queen; and Benny, a former member of the group who, after marrying into a wealthy family, has become their landlord. How these young bohemians negotiate their dreams, loves, and conflicts provides the narrative thread to this groundbreaking musical.

ANGEL DUMOTT SCHUNARD: A transvestite street drummer infected with HIV. Incredible dancer with a magnetic personality. C3 - A4, Tenor

BENJAMIN COFFIN III: Wealthy landlord of Mark and Roger's building. Benny wants to start a multimedia studio. Eb3 - F4, Tenor

JOANNE JEFFERSON: A headstrong public interest lawyer, and Maureen's lover. Bb3 - E5, Alto

MARK COHEN: A filmmaker and video artist, determined to capture "real" life on film. Roger's roommate. C#3 - G4, Tenor

MAUREEN JOHNSON: A performance artist and Mark's ex-girlfriend. C4 - F5, Soprano Belt

MIMI MARQUEZ: A dancer with AIDS and a drug problem. Desperate for a place to feel safe and protected. F#3 - E5, Alto

ROGER DAVIS: An edgy, struggling musician who's HIV+. He hopes to write one last meaningful song before he dies. B2 - A4, Tenor

TOM COLLINS An HIV+ computer genius who has recently returned to New York after an absence. Has a deep capacity for love and understanding. F#2 - A4, Baritenor (There is only one high A (A4) for this character. It is of short duration.)
