Moon Over Buffalo' Auditions, Vagabond Players (Baltmore), January 10-11
The Vagabond Players will hold open auditions for Ken Ludwig's comedy, 'Moon Over Buffalo,' directed by John Desmone, on Sunday, January 10 (6:00-8:00pm) and on Monday, January 11 (7:00pm-9:00pm) at the Vagabond Theatre, 806 S. Broadway in Baltimore. Callbacks, if necessary, will be held on Tuesday, January 19, 7:00pm-9:00pm. In the event of bad weather cancelling one of the original dates, make-up session will be January 19.
This is a non-union, non-professional production; actors are not paid.
George and Charlotte Hay are a couple of washed-up touring actors who are given a sudden chance at stardom, if all goes well during their make-or-break performance of 'Private Lives.' Needless to say, anything that can go wrong does in this madcap backstage farce--set in the 1950's--that is a love letter to live theater.
Performance Dates
Performance dates are May 27-June 26 (five weekends), with performances on Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00pm and Sundays at 2:00pm. There is one Thursdayperformance on June 23.
Rehearsals/Conflicts
The director is planning a rehearsal schedule beginning March 14. Minimal conflicts are expected and will be worked around but significant conflicts will likely influence casting decisions.
Rehearsals may be scheduled for any weeknight – Monday through Thursday – from 7:15 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and anytime on Saturday between10:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. and Sunday from 6:15 to 8:30 p.m. Typically there will be 2 weeknight rehearsals a week and either or both weekend days until tech week.
Please be sure to provide any and all possible conflicts that may keep you from a rehearsal or performance at any of those times between March 14th and closing night, June 26.
All Roles are Open
The cast includes:
George, a former matinee idol, now leading a road company (50's)
Charlotte, a former starlet, George's wife, and an actress in his company (50's)
Ethel, Charlotte's nearly deaf mother (70's)
Rosalind, George and Charlotte's daughter, who left the stage to lead a normal life (20's-30's)
Howard, a TV weatherman and Rosalind's fiancee (20's-30's)
Eileen, an actress in George's company, who was George's one-night stand (early 20's)
Paul, stage manager for George's company, and Rosalind's ex-fiancee (20's-30's)
Richard, a lovesick lawyer who is courting Charlotte (50's)
'Moon Over Buffalo' relies heavily on situation comedy for it humor, as well as some sexual innuendo and slapstick. Several of the performers, including the actor who plays George, must be able to deliver highly physical performances--from mock fencing matches to an onstage wrestling match and other stunt pratfalls. The action and dialogue are fast-paced, as the characters are constantly bickering or frantically trying to resolve some confusion.
How to Prepare
Auditioners should be prepared to read from the 'Moon Over Buffalo'' script.
Sides will be available at the auditions, but actors can better prepare for the auditions by reviewing downloadable sample selections of the expected audition readings from the Vagabond Players web site,
