excavation theater seeks 4-6 skilled actors of ALL ages and backgrounds to embark on an 8-week collaborative devised theater expedition culminating in the creation and performance of an original narrative play. the playwright/director (see below) will utilize organized improvisations, actor-authored material, emerging scene work, and more in order to write and direct an original full-length play inspired by the process itself. looking for performers who see the opportunity in being unstoppable in their personal sharing and creative expression. especially interested in those with training and experience in improvisation, playwriting, and other forms of devised theater. this is a chance to be part of an outrageously fun and fearless excavation of the human experience.

process - we will meet at CAP21 studios three times per week for a total of eight weeks. the exact schedule and location can be found here. for the first four weeks the playwright/director will lead the cast through a series of dramatic exercises, conversations, interviews, etc. aimed at uncovering the cast members' original perspectives, developing characters, stories and themes. cast members will also be given creative writing assignments to complete at home and share at rehearsal. meanwhile, the playwright/director will weave our findings into an original play. he will spend the next three weeks staging the play. finally, the cast will perform the play a handful of times for an invited audience.

director - evan greenberg is an american screenwriter, playwright, and director for film and stage. he has written screenplays for studios such as Warner Brothers and 72 Productions. his screenplay, Dance of the Mirlitons, was recognized at number 10 out of 500 on hollywood's coveted Black List of 2005. his short film A Boy and A Girl, won 10 Craft Awards at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, including a faculty commendation in filmmaking. In addition to NYU, evan studied directing with Milton Katselis at the Beverly Hills Playhouse. he is currently the artistic director of AfterWork Theater Project, based in new york city. he is represented by CAA.
