Hershey Area Playhouse Announces Auditions
for Disney’s The Lion King Jr.

Hershey Area Playhouse is holding auditions for its junior musical production of Disney’s The Lion King Jr. for students in grades 4 to 12. There will be two opportunities to audition—Monday, September 6 from 3 to 6 pm, and Tuesday, September 7 from 5:30 to 7 pm. Callbacks will be held on Wednesday, September 8, as needed.

Those auditioning must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who remains on site during the audition process. Masks are required, but know that we may ask you to remove it once in the audition room. You may also wear a shield.

Those auditioning should come prepared with a 36-bar song selection. There will be an accompanist on site. Please bring sheet music or a pre-recorded karaoke track on a device that can play it in the room.

We request that you do not sing a cappella.

Short scenes from the show will be provided, and those auditioning may be asked to do a cold reading. These scene selections have been posted at our website at
hersheyareaplayhouse.com/upcoming. Auditions will also include learning and performing choreography, so please wear or bring appropriate shoes.

Available Roles:

RAFIKI (m/f) – a mysterious and wise mandrill

MUFASA (m)- a lion, King of the Pridelands, Simba’s father

SARBI (f)- a lioness, queen of the Pridelands, Simba’s mother

ZAZU (m/f) – a hornbill, Mufasa’s loyal yet fretful attendant

SCAR (m/f)- a lion, Mufasa’s jealous sibling

YOUNG SIMBA/SIMBA (m) the ‘prince’ of the Pridelands who will one day be king

YOUNG NALA/NALA (f)- a spunky brave lioness and Simba’s best friend

SARAFINA (f)- a lioness, Nala’s mother

BANZAI, SHENZI, ED,- (m/f) hyenas who serve Scar

TIMON (m/f)- a sarcastic, outgoing meerkat who lives in the jungle

PUMBAA (m/f)- a gentle, kind hearted warthog and Timon’s best friend

LIONS- (m/f) the caretakers of the Pridelands

HYENAS (m/f) the outcasts of the Pridelands

ENSEMBLE- the other animal inhabitants of the Pridelands, which will be featured throughout the show playing an assortment of characters and other integral parts.

Disney’s The Lion King Jr. is an adapted version of the beloved film and stage production. The show is being directed by theatre veteran Jennifer Feldser, with choreography by Laurie Miller Petersen and vocal direction by Jacquie Engel.

Once cast, families will be asked to contribute $50. Scholarships are available for families with financial need and can be coordinated with Feldser.

Disney’s The Lion King Jr. is possible thanks to a generous grant from The Hershey Company. A preview performance will be held on October 20, with performances on October 22 to 24. An additional performance could be added on October 21. For more information, visit
