Discover Dance Scholarship Audition
Saturday, April 20 at 4 p.m.
at the BalletMet Columbus Dance Center
Can your child leap, turn, bend, stretch, kick and twirl? If so, he or she could be awarded a scholarship to study dance. BalletMet Columbus is holding auditions for its Discover Dance scholarship program Saturday 20 April at 4 p.m. at The BalletMet Dance Center (322 Mount Vernon Avenue).
BalletMet’s professional company and the BalletMet Academy continue to be voted “Best Dance Company” and “Best Dance Studio,” respectively, by the readers of Columbus Alive newspaper and City Scene magazine in their annual roundups of the city’s best offerings.
BalletMet Columbus’ Discover Dance Scholarship Program offers children in the Central Ohio area opportunities to receive a fully-funded year of tuition for quality dance education and training at the BalletMet Dance Academy. These scholarships require an audition and are renewed annually based upon review of criteria. This year, scholarships are for study starting autumn 2013 and continuing through spring 2014.
BalletMet awards up to 70 scholarships each year to talented youth, many from minority and underserved groups, who could not otherwise participate. The Discover Dance scholarship has an approximate value of $2,000. Scholarship recipients will have the opportunity to take classes in ballet, tap, hip-hop, creative movement, and flamenco. Scholarship recipients will also receive tickets to select BalletMet professional company season performances.
During the audition, dance professionals from BalletMet will screen and identify kinesthetically gifted children for training in classical ballet and other dance forms. Children selected must have feet and ankles capable of handling Pointe and ballet work, thus their feet will be examined. BalletMet’s professional staff will be on hand during the April 20th audition to answer questions.
BalletMet’s scholarship program has been around since 1987 with a goal of making quality dance education and training available to students in the Central Ohio area. BalletMet is committed to bringing the positive influence of dance to the Columbus community. Through its BalletMet Dance Academy Scholarship program, BalletMet strives to make the art and discipline of dance available to talented and committed children.
