The Cotton Club, takes place from 1935-1945. It was a club/establishment that featured many of the best black entertainers and jazz musicians of the era.
Feel free to DRESS the part and bring tap shoes!!!!!! Lastly Men, state whether or not you play a brass instrument or piano. Please bring Headshot & resume. Bring your instrument if you have it. Sides will be available at the audition! Upon submission you will be notified of the audition location.
Casting for all parts:
[African American, Female Dancers] - Early 20's to early 30's - looking for 5 female Club/Chorus Dancers that can sing, act as well as tap. Must be Intermediate to Advanced level tapper.
[African American, Male Dancers] - Early 20's to early 30's - looking for 3 male dancers. Must be able to tap intermediate level.
[Fats Waller] - Male, African American, mid 20's to mid 30's - was an influential American jazz pianist, organist, composer, singer, and comedic entertainer. Must be able to play piano and sing.
[Louise Armstrong] - Male, African American, mid 20's to mid 30's - jazz trumpeter, singer, and an influential figure in jazz music. Must be able to play trumpet. Knowledge of scatting is a plus.
[Ella Fitzgerald] - Female, African American, mid 20's to late 30's - An American jazz vocalist. Must have some knowledge of scat singing.
[Lena Horn] - Female, African American (More mixed in appearance), mid 20's - early 30's - Joined the chorus of the Cotton Club at the age of sixteen and became a nightclub performer. Must have an outstanding voice.
[Cab Calloway] - Male, African American, mid 20's to mid 30's - Host of the Cotton Club and band leader. Must have a great feet-work (think James Brown) and a charismatic, energetic and stylish personality.
[Billie Holiday] - Female, African American, mid 20's to mid 30's - American jazz singer and songwriter.
[Moms Mabley] - Female, African American, mid 20's to mid 30's - Stand up comedian with a witty, raunchy, hilarious persona on stage.
