Columbia Children’s Theatre to hold
Audition & Headshot Workshop
Columbia Children’s Theatre (CCT), the Midlands’ only professional theatre for families and young audiences, will hold an intensive audition and headshot workshop for students ages 12-18 on August 22 and 29 from 1:30 to 4:30 each day. Registration for both sessions is $100 and includes one digital copy of a professionally photographed head shot. You may register securely on-line at
www.columbiachildrenstheatre.com. The sessions will be held at CCT on the second floor of Richland Mall, 3400 Forest Dr. For more information contact CCT at
803-691-4548.
About the Workshop
CCT Artistic Director, Jerry Stevenson, along with American Academy of Dramatic Art graduate and former New York actor Julian Deleon, will lead the two-Saturday workshop. During the beginning session of the Saturday, August 22 workshop, students will have a sitting with professional headshot photographer Sophia Neghesti. Then each student will present a prepared monologue and song and receive feedback from the facilitators and advice on what to change, improve or keep for the next session. Students will also receive advice on effective resumes, audition etiquette, song cuttings and marketing yourself as an actor.
During the Saturday, August 29th session, with the advice of the faculty, students will choose which headshot works best for them and receive a digital copy to reproduce as needed. Students will then perform their re-worked auditions for the faculty and class and receive further feedback.
“Many of our YouTheatre actors will be auditioning for colleges, regional and summer stock theatres this year,” said CCT Artistic Director Jerry Stevenson, “and we wanted to give them the tools to present the most effective audition possible and land the role!”
Preparation for the Workshop
For the headshots actors should wear comfortable clothes that they feel good in. Avoid wearing solid white, strong patterns, prints or stripes, or bright red. Hair should be clean and styled naturally. Girls should wear light make-up (eyeliner, eye shadow, and blush). Boys should arrive natural and we will touch-up as needed.
For the audition workshop, students should be prepared to present two, memorized one minute contrasting monologues and two Broadway-type songs (one ballad, one up tempo) and bring either sheet music in the proper key (go to
www.MusicNotes.com for selections and transpositions) or cd accompaniment. Students should also bring a resume of all theatre experience including shows, in-school programs, dance class, voice lessons, choir etc.
Columbia Children’s Theatre is a professional resident not-for-profit theatre dedicated to providing quality live theatre experiences for families and young audiences, and is supported in part by the City of Forest Acres and the South Carolina Arts Commission, which receives funding from the National Endowment for the Arts.
