AUDITIONS FOR AN AMERICAN DAUGHTER
The Elmwood Playhouse in Nyack NY will be holding auditions for its upcoming production of “AN AMERICAN DAUGHTER”, written by Wendy Wasserstein and directed by Claudia Stefany. “AN AMERICAN DAUGHTER”, the cost one woman pays when she dares to have it all.
AUDITIONS: Wednesday September 7, 2016 at 7:30-10pm and Thursday September 8, 2016 at 7:30-10pm
CALLBACKS: Monday September 12, 2016 at 7:30-10pm (by invitation only)
PERFORMANCES: Friday November 11, 2016 thru Saturday December 3, 2016 (Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays with possible Wednesday and Thursdays)
SHOW DESCRIPTION:
Surgeon General nominee Dr. Lyssa Dent Hughes learns how a seemingly innocent mistake can create a media feeding frenzy that changes the course of her life both professionally and personally forever.
CAST REQUIREMENTS: (6 Males, 4 Females)
Dr. Lyssa Dent Hughes-(Female, 40-50) Intelligent, attractive wife, mother of twin boys & descendant of Ulysses S. Grant, National advocate of women’s health issues. A woman who has it all.
Quincy Quince- (Female, 25-30) Very pretty woman, career drive but sometimes questionable scruples and tact. Greek and originally from Astoria, author of ‘The Prisoner of Gender’, a ‘neo-feminist’ and Walter’s former star pupil.
Dr. Judith B. Kaufman- (Female, 40-50) Lyssa’s best friend from childhood, divorced African-Amerian Jewish oncologist who longs for a child. Boisterous, energetic and acerbically funny.
Walter Abrahmson- (Male, 40-50) Lyssa’s husband, father to her sons. Author & Professor of Sociology at Georgetown University, The picture of duplicity being a smoker & a jogger. Proud of his wife and her accomplishments but longs for more in their relationship and his life.
Morrow McCarthy- (Male, 30-40) Gay and politically right-wing, he is a friend of Lyssa and Walter’s as well as a newly minted Hollywood screenwriter. Wickedly smart with a rapier sharp wit. Any ethnicity/race.
Timber Tucker-(Male, 35-45) Handsome and deliberately casual host of network TV news show ‘Time Zone’. Although dogged in his approach, he is not without empathy. He revels in his role as a star network media journalist. Any ethnicity/race.
Senator Alan Hughes-(Male, 65-75) Lyssa’s father and long-time conservative Indiana Republican Senator running for re-election. Recently remarried he loves his daughter but not her politics.
Charlotte ‘Chubby’ Hughes-(Female 55-65) Warm and genuine 3rd wife of Senator Hughes, she is an attractive sporty looking woman with a humorous, common sense approach to the unpredictable and sometimes volatile world of political life.
Billy Robinson-(Male, 28-35) An immaculate preppie who happens to be the best ‘spin’ control man in the Senate. He is an employee of Senator Hughes’ and is brought in specifically to help Lyssa with her media woes. Any ethnicity/race.
Jimmy-(Male, 25-35) Cameraman for Timber Tucker’s network TV news show ‘Time Zone.’ Steadicam/handheld camera operation knowledge a plus. Any ethnicity/race.
