About the Play From the script: This is a play about real people who are really, truly, honestly dealing with the toughest thing there is to deal with in life: love. The play consists of 8 short plays featuring residents of the mythical, magical Northern Maine town of Almost. Cast Of Characters Almost, Maine tells the stories of 10 men and 9 women, typically played by 2 men and 2 women. For this production we are looking to cast 6-8 actors who are or can play late 20s to 40s. Playwright John Cariani describes the characters this way: The people of Almost, Maine are not hicks. [...] They are not quaint, quirky eccentrics. [...] They are not Down Easters. [...] They are ordinary people. (It's their situations that are odd and extraordinary.) They work hard for a living. They are extremely dignified. They are honest and true. [...] They are not glib. But this does not mean they are dumb. They're very smart. [...] What makes these people special is their guilelessness. [...] When they speak, they do so simply, honestly, truly, and from the heart.
