Note from the Director:
12 Angry Jurors is a play about real people coming together to complete a serious and almost impossible task: deciding whether someone is guilty or innocent. The beauty of this piece comes in
the study of human nature and honest interaction. In the face of this daunting task, each jurors’ true depth of character is revealed.
When preparing your story per the Audition Requirements, look for ways in which to share in an open and honest manner.
Audition Requirements:
Please prepare a story about a time in your life that you ‘witnessed an injustice and your reaction to what you witnessed. Please limit your story to 2 minutes max.
Please dress comfortably and be prepared to play as we will be exploring some community building exercises.
Characters:
FOREMAN: (Male or Female) Formal, dogged, loves the authority of being in charge

JUROR NO. TWO: (Female) Meek, hesitant woman who finds it difficult to maintain any opinions of her own. She is easily swayed and usually adopts the opinion of the last person to whom she has spoken

JUROR NO. THREE: (Male) Strong, forceful, opinionated, humorless, intolerant of opinions other than his own

JUROR NO. FOUR: (Female) Wealthy with status, practiced speaker, concerned with the facts of the case and is appalled with the behavior of the others

JUROR NO. FIVE: (Male) Naïve, frightened, young, takes his obligations in this case seriously but finds it difficult to speak when his elders have the floor

JUROR NO. SIX: (Female) Honest, simple-minded, makes decisions slowly and carefully, finds it difficult to be positive, but listens carefully to others’ opinions that appeal to her.

JUROR NO. SEVEN: (Female) Loud, flashy, bully, quick to show temper and quick to form opinions on things she knows little about.

JUROR NO. EIGHT: (Male) Quiet, thoughtful, gentle, compassionate, fights to see justice done

JUROR NO. NINE: (Male) Mild, gentle, older man long defeated by life, mourns the days in which he would have been able to be courageous

JUROR NO. TEN: (Male) Angry, bitter, antagonistic, bigot, places little value on human life except his own.

JUROR NO. ELEVEN: (Female) Refugee from Europe, humble, ashamed, subservient, seeks justice because she has suffered through so much injustice

JUROR NO. TWELVE: (Male) Slick, bright advertising man, superficial, snobby, no real understanding of people, trying to be a good guy

2 GUARDS: (Male or Female) Small role, but always present
