CASTING IMMEDIATELY: 2 NON-AEA Roles: Sylvester, The Mighty Real
OUT of Site: Sylvester, The Mighty Real (Live Theatre/Walking Tour) is a new collaboration between Eye Zen Presents; writer/pastor, Marvin K. White; Director, Michael French; and community partner SF Heritage, celebrating San Francisco's very own international disco diva, Sylvester.
Through an 2-month rehearsal/tech process and a 4-month theatrical run, our cohort will explore the hidden history of queer ancestor, Sylvester by providing an accessible historical understanding of racial equity within the queer liberation movement in the Haight of the 60’s and 70’s against the backdrop of civil rights, anti-war, student uprising, feminism, and Gay liberation.
This show is set to premiere in July with previews in June and run until October 1st, 2023. Rehearsals start April 2023.
All talent and crew required vaccinations prior to first rehearsal. Audience required to wear masks in-doors. All talent and crew will be hired as non-exempt employees of Intersection for the Arts, Eye Zen’s fiscal sponsor. All employees are on-boarded by Intersection’s HR team and must submit I-9 documents.
1. Supporting Role: Guide & Ensemble player
Seeking any ethnicity/race, LGBTQIA+ talent who can play roles of various ages and genders such as Joan Rivers, Merv Griffin, a Cockette, a groupie, a muse, a bandmate.
Performer is comfortable with scripted material, improvisation, and interacting with an audience in the way a cabaret singer would. Actor should be comfortable with choreographed movement and have basic dance training or skills.
If you are a singer or musician: piano, guitar, bass, that is a plus but not required.
Playable age range: 25-55
Rate: $25.00 per hr. x rehearsals/performances hrs.
Estimated rehearsal rate based on 214 hrs., $5,350
Estimated performance rate based on 280 hrs., $7,000
Estimated total rate: $12,350
· Performer is comfortable with scripted material as well as improvisation and should be able to interact with an audience in the way a cabaret singer would.
· The actor should be comfortable performing on the street and in public and with walking up to 3/4 of a mile per show.
· Other performance skills such as circus, clowning, dance, DJ, drag are a plus.
2. Supporting role: Audience Wrangler and Ensemble player
Seeking any ethnicity/race, LGBTQIA+ talent can play any number of supporting roles.
This actor can play a range of gender and fluid sexuality. Coat-check girl/boy/person who opens the limo to more serious supporting roles throughout the show. Performer is comfortable with scripted material, improvisation, and interacting with an audience in the way a cabaret singer would. Actor should be comfortable with choreographed movement and have basic dance training or skills.
Having musical talent as a singer or musician is a plus.
Playable Age Range: 25-45
Rate: $25.00 per hr. x rehearsals/performances hrs.
Estimated rehearsal rate based on 160 hrs., $4,000
Estimated performance rate based on 280 hrs., $7,000
Estimated total rate: $11,000
· They are comfortable with improvisation to be able to interact with an audience in the way a cabaret singer would.
· Actors should be familiar with devised theater and new works and a longer rehearsal process.
· The performer should be comfortable performing on the street and in public
· The performer is assertive and is good at giving clear directives to large groups of people and individuals.
· Other performance skills such as circus, clowning, dance, drag are a plus.
· The actor should be comfortable performing on the street and in public and with walking up to 3/4 to a mile per show.
