Shop Foreperson
The Public Theater is seeking a full-time Shop Foreperson to join a tight knit, dynamic team. The Shop Foreperson will report to the Technical Director and work under the direction of the Shop Manager to facilitate a safe and efficient shop in three locations (Downtown Manhattan, Ridgewood Queens and Central Park) supporting shows in 6 theaters. They will work directly with the scenery office team and the rest of the production department to ensure all projects are delivered on time and under budget.

Essential Duties and responsibilities:
• Monitor crews working in the shop to ensure they have all needed equipment.
• Ensure safe and conscientious working conditions and environments.
• Oversee safety procedures for material hoisting in and out of the building.
• Maintain a clean and organized shop environment.
• Practice anti-racism in all areas of their work and uphold Cultural Transformation goals as set forth by The Public
• Receive and distribute packages.
• Coordinate trucking needs with in-house logistics team .
• Perform light facilities maintenance (ie> Take out trash).
• Follow and promote in-house safety procedures and conform to state laws including hazardous waste and SDS.
• Promote a collaborative, inclusive, and respectful working environment.
Requirements:
• Comprehensive knowledge of construction technologies, processes, hardware and equipment.
• Proficient in technical theater construction, rigging, and safety.
• Must have a good attention to detail and accuracy in recording information.
• Proficient in common computer skills including Excel, Word, and Acrobat.
• Calm demeanor and strong interpersonal skills.
• Proven ability to problem solve and take initiative.
• Strong organization, communication, and multi-tasking skills.
• Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment overseeing multiple projects at once.
• Ability and desire to work cooperatively with others and be a part of an amazing team of artists, craftspeople, and professionals.
Preferred Requirements:
• Previous experience in a theater environment.
• Basic Knowledge of theatrical scenery practices, terms, and materials.
• Experience with MIG welding.
• Forklift driving experience/certification.
• Valid FDNY Certificates of Fitness/fire guard experience.
