Position: Raue Center School For The Arts – Lighting Designer

Hours: Varies based on availability

Stipend: $1000



Raue Center School For The Arts (RCSA) is thrilled to be launching its 2025 Season of productions and is looking for a skilled, self-motivated Lighting Designer to join our team for the RCSA production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child: High School Edition. Potential Lighting Designer should be a self-starter and an excellent collaborator with the creative team members.



Lighting Designer Responsibilities:

Understanding the script and production specifications and collaborating with the Director, Technical Director, Production Manager, and Production Director to design the look of the lights..

Researching Harry Potter and the Cursed Child to create thematic and conceptual looks.

Demonstrate a solid understanding of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child based on the lore of Harry Potter to assist in creating a look based on the style of the original but SHOULD NOT be copied. Lighting Designer should approach the show in a way that they create their own feel and look.

Meet with Scenic Designer, Costume Designer, Production Director, and Director to discuss color. Meet with the Scenic Designer to discuss all masking, flying, shifting scenery and any wired practicals.

Meet with the Production Director and Scenic/Projection Designer to make sure lights will not affect projections when the stage is lit.

Complete a cue synopsis that details all lighting shifts and changes.

Develop preliminary concept statements and begin rough cue synopsis.

Meet with the Production Director, Production Manager(s), and Technical Director to coordinate hang, focus, dark time, etc.

Providing any potential cost for specialty lighting items and time estimates to obtain (if applicable).

Attend production meetings and a designer run to see the overall flow of the show.

Build cues, presets, set levels, special lighting, and effects.

Arrange a meeting with the Director, Stage Manager, and the other production team members for a “Paper Tech”, to go through the show cue by cue prior to the first tech rehearsal. This will also be coordinated with our Production Manager(s).

Attend all tech and dress rehearsals and evaluate, plan, and rework all light cues as necessary.

Continue polishing and improving cues and light plot until the final rehearsal.

All designers will need to participate in strike, immediately following the final performance (Sunday, June 29th)



Important Harry Potter and the Cursed Child: High School Edition dates:

Auditions & Rehearsal Dates: Auditions & Rehearsal Dates: March 17th – June 29th, 2025

There will be time off during this long process and we will work around things like Spring Break, Prom, Graduation, end of school year events. Rehearsals will begin with perhaps 2 - 3 times a week and then gradually move into more nights as we get closer to the summer.

Show Dates: Thursday, June 26 @ 7 PM | Friday, June 20, 27 @ 8 PM| Saturday, June 21, 28 @ 2 PM & 7 PM | Sunday, June 22, 29 @ 2 PM
