JOB OVERVIEW
Rehearsal For Life’s after school theater program, Freelance Players is looking for a creative teaching artist to join their team as the JP Troupe Director for our Fall 2023 and Spring 2024 sessions. As Troupe Director you will work in collaboration with the creative team to rehearse and produce an original musical while nurturing an environment of community, creativity and self expression. As a process based multi-arts program dedicated to empowering young people, it is our ultimate goal that through the creative process we are creating a transformative space where all young people feel seen, heard and celebrated for who they are. We are looking for someone who will support this goal!
Approximately
4 hrs/wk including rehearsals and prep
20-25 hrs/wk during production week (12/10-12/17) 80 hours total at $30/hr
POSITION STATUS
Part time, non-exempt, contract.
Salary Range: $2000-$2500 per session
Schedule:
Tuesday afternoons 4:30-6:45 (please arrive no later than 4:15pm)
FALL 2023
Start date: 9/5
Production week: 12/10-12/17
Performances 12/15 @7pm, 12/16 @2pm and @7pm, 12/17 @2pm SPRING 2024 (approximate)
Start date: 1/16
Production week: 5/12-5/19 Performances 5/17, 5/18, 5/19
Rehearsal Location: Hope Central Church

RESPONSIBILITIES
● Distribute script (and minor edit when necessary) and score and distribute to the cast and creative team
● Oversee auditions and casting of the show in alignment with the mission and vision of the organization
● Develop and execute artistic vision for production and collaborate with Music Director and Choreographer on realizing that vision
● Create rehearsal plan for the session
● Attend, oversee and actively participate in all scheduled rehearsals ***dates below:
○ Rehearsals
■ Weekly (Tuesdays excluding public school holidays), 4:30-6:45
■ at least one Saturday rehearsal TBD
○ Production week
■ Daily rehearsals from 4:30-6:45/4:30-6:45 leading up to the performances
○ Performances
■ Friday 12/15 @7pm, Saturday 12/16 @2pm and @7pm, Sunday 12/17

● Attend Rehearsal for Life and Freelance Players events and meetings (e.g. Winter Party
and Spring Festival)
● Serve as point of contact with the venue, families of participants and creative team
providing schedules and program information in collaboration with Head of Program and
Creative Director.
● Communicate and collaborate with costume designer to plan costuming needs and
schedule
● Maintain open communication and timely response to communication with Head of
Program and Creative Director
● Collaborate with the Choreographer and Music Director on the community and
relationships built within the troupe
● Observe and mediate student behavior and skill building to support evaluation measures
and inform practice
● Demonstrate an understanding and implementation of RFL missions and goals
QUALIFICATIONS
● At least 2 years of direct experience directing theater in an arts education environment
● Demonstrates knowledge of teaching skills, confidence boosting and self esteem
development, behavior management and conflict resolution
● Demonstrates knowledge and ability to teach a wide variety of theater and acting
techniques
● Ability and enthusiasm for working with 25+ children in an arts education environment
● Ability and enthusiasm for working in a creative and collaborative environment
● Demonstrate an understanding and implementation of RFL missions and goals
● Interest in seeking and engaging in continuous knowledge of social and emotional
○ learning (SEL) skills and effective K-12 instructional practices
● All Rehearsal For Life employees are required to provide proof of vaccination against Covid-19
