Northern Stage, a LORT D 240 seat regional theater in White River Junction, VT, seeks an experienced Cutter/Draper for its 2022-2023 season. Northern Stage produces a mainstage season, an education season, a New Works festival, and 4-6 other events year-round. The
Cutter/Draper will work closely with the Costume Shop Supervisor and other members of the production staff to execute all necessary costume-related activity.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
● Assist Costume Shop Supervisor in executing all costume designs.
● Interpret costume renderings, determine necessary yardage of fabric and trims,
fabricate patterns, and cut fabric based on patterns.
● Help to supervise work of staff, apprentices, and volunteers, promoting a safe and
healthy work environment.
● Assist in fittings, and execute alterations on costumes as needed.
● Assist with pulling and restocking, and with the purchase and maintenance of costume
shop materials, supplies, and equipment.
● Act as a member of a wardrobe crew as required.
● Provide support for events outside the mainstage and education seasons.
● Support other production departments as needed.
Qualifications:
● Bachelor’s degree or 3 years professional experience in theatrical costume construction.
● Competent working knowledge of garment construction, alteration, and repair, fitting costumes, and finish work.
● Strong stitching and construction skills.
● Experience with patterning and draping, as well as dyeing and distressing.
● Experience in wig maintenance.
● High degree of interpersonal and communication skills.
● Valid driver's license.
Job Type Full time, with some nights and weekends required
Contract Dates: 5/9/22 - 5/28/23 with possibility for renewal
Compensation: $15/h + overtime paid at time and a half
