The main role of the Assistant Scenic Charge Artist is to realize the set designer's vision for each production using paint and texture effects, under the direction of the Scenic Charge. In addition to executing scenic painting duties, this position also involves assisting in leading the paint team, coordinating with other departments, and potentially taking on the responsibilities of the Scenic Charge when necessary.



The ideal candidate will have the following skills and abilities:

• Utilize a variety of artistic techniques and tools to create unique treatments for each project

• Communicate clearly and thoughtfully

• Adapt to the working styles of different artists and collaborators

• Operate and maintain commercial spray equipment (Airless & Pneumatic)

• Work at heights up to 30’ using lifts, ladders, and scaffolding

• Manage time effectively in a dynamic environment

• Collaborate on developing solutions, innovations, and improvements

• Lift and carry up to 50 pounds



Responsibilities:

• Assist the Scenic Charge with project planning and administrative tasks

• Develop new techniques and engage in discussions with designers

• Participate in backpainting and surface preparation for scenic treatments

• Research, source and purchase materials

• Apply paint, texture, and carving techniques according to the design

• Handle solo projects such as portraits and specialty faux finishes as needed

• Lead other artists in executing treatments according to plan

• Take initiative in maintaining tools and the workspace

• Uphold safety standards and foster a healthy, supportive work environment



Qualifications:

• At least four years of professional scenic art experience is preferred. Candidates with equivalent experience

and expertise will be considered.

• Ideal candidate possesses vehicle for travel between multi-campus locations and purchasing materials.

• State issued drivers license required.



This position reports to the Scenic Charge Artist.



Compensation:

Salary range: $52, 070 - $57,246 per year with excellent benefit package for full time employees, including medical, dental, vision insurance, short-term and long-term disability insurance, life insurance, vacation pay, paid sick time, personal days, Ventra transit benefit program, employee assistance program and 401(k) matching retirement program.
