BREAKDOWN
All roles have been cast. We are seeking 2 understudies to cover the following roles.
PLEASE NOTE: We strongly encourage performers of all genders, races, and differently abled actors to attend.
UNDERSTUDY 1:
To cover three roles; 60 year old professor; 60 year old educated farmer; 40 year old doctor.
The professor (he/him pronouns) is a despondent after being pushed out of his job at the university which he has held for 35 years; and now finds himself in the countryside with little to do. A man full of frustrations and inner rage. Attractive and authoritative.
The educated farmer (Vanya, he/him pronouns) has given up all personal ambition to take care of the farm and provide a living for others. Recently he has questioned this, and now is full of resentment and self-doubt.
The doctor (he/him pronouns) is a man worn down by 10 years of doctoring the sick in hopeless conditions. Exhausted but still with a flicker of hope that he can do good works.
UNDERSTUDY 2:
To cover two roles: 60 year old former nanny and 70 year old mother of Vanya.
The nanny (she/her pronouns) is the hearth of the household; she holds everything together. Others come to talk to her; when no one can get the professor to do something, she can. A quiet force.
The mother (she/her pronouns) has lived her life in the world of ideas and books, and blinded herself to the problems of her children and family. Aloof and distant.
