PREPARATION

Please prepare a brief cut of a song and have a contrasting selection ready if asked. Bring sheet music in the correct key. Be prepared to dance if asked. Accompanist provided. Please bring your headshot and resume stapled together. Sides will be available on the website at www.theatre.zone and will also be provided at the audition and emailed in advance. Visually impaired performers may request an advance copy of the sides when making an audition appointment.

ONCE

Book by Edna Walsh, Music & Lyrics by Glen Hansard & Markéta Irglová.

1st rehearsal: December 30, 2024. Runs January 9 – 12 and 16 - 19 at 7:30, January 11, 12, 18, 19 at 2:00, 2025.

*Please Note: Everyone will be required to play an instrument as all cast members play instruments in the show. “Girl” must play the piano and “Guy” must play the guitar, but other characters may not be set in stone but include guitar, mandolin, cello, violin, bass, accordion & drums. All roles require either an Irish or Czech accent.

SYNOPSIS: The Tony Award-winning Best Musical of 2012, tells a story of passion for music, heartbreak, intimacies, and wonder about the future. The plot follows the relationship between Guy, a street performer who is a songwriting guitar player, and Girl, whose encouragement and appreciation of Guy’s music lifts his spirits when he wants to quit music. As the friends develop feelings for one another, they make decisions of the heart that will keep the audience guessing about happy endings.

SEEKING:

Girl: Female, 25-35. Mezzo-Soprano - Direct, intelligent, no nonsense, and witty. Should have something ‘other’ about her. Has had to work hard at life but doesn’t think she deserves any sympathy. Plays the piano and sings extremely well. Has a strong Czech (Eastern European) accent.

Guy: Male, 25-40. Baritone/Tenor - A struggling Irish musician. Lost and a bit sad, but extremely appealing. Works with his Da in a vacuum repair shop. Sings and play guitar extremely well. Has a strong Irish accent.

Billy: Male, 30-49. Baritone - A large Irish man. Owner of the music store where Girl plays piano. Loud, funny and protective of Girl but also has a vulnerability. Sings and play one or more of the above listed instruments well. Has a strong Irish accent.

Reza: CAST Female, 25-40. Soprano. - A sexy, funny, smart Czech girl. Often a bit larger than life. Sings and plays violin/fiddle extremely well. Has a strong Czech (Eastern European) accent.

Baruska: Female, 45 - 65. Alto - Mother of Girl. A cool but caring Czech mother who likes a full house and full stomachs. Doesn’t possess many inhibitions. Sings and plays one or more of the above listed instruments. Has a strong Czech (Eastern European) accent.

Bank Manager: Any gender identity, 30-55 - Vocal type open. Seems quite prim and proper but has a secret passion for music. Sings and plays one or more of the above listed instruments well. Has a strong Irish (Cork) accent.

Da: CAST Male, 50 - 67. Vocal type open - Guy’s dad. A man of few words, but a lovely and caring father. Sings and plays one or more of the above listed instruments. Has a strong Irish accent.

Svec: Male, 20-40. Baritone - A real odd ball. Loves television and coffee. Sings and plays one or more of the above listed instruments well, drum kit a plus. Has a strong Czech (Eastern European) accent.

Andrej: Male, 20-40. Baritone. - Earnest and kind. It works well if he has a slight build, made slighter by his oversized interview suit. An employee at a fast-food chain but has big dreams. Sings and plays one or more of the above listed instruments well. Has a strong Czech (Eastern European) accent.

Eamon: Male, 20-50. Baritone - The music studio manager where Guy and Girl record their album. A tough nut to crack but eventually gives into the musicians’ talents. Sings and plays one or more of the above listed instruments well. Has a strong Irish accent.

Emcee: Male, 20-49. Baritone - The emcee at a bar. A good-natured ball buster. Sings and plays one or more of the above listed instruments well. Has a strong Irish accent.

Ex-Girlfriend: Female, 20-40. Mezzo-Soprano - Guy’s ex-girlfriend who now lives in New York. Kind, lovely and likeable. Sings and plays one or more of the above listed instruments well – violin preferred* extremely well. Has a strong Irish accent.

THE RINK

Book by Terrence McNally, Music by John Kander, Lyrics by Fred Ebb.

1st rehearsal: January 27, 2025. Runs February 6 – 8 and 13 - 16 at 7:30, February 8, 9, 15 & 16 at 2:00, 2025.

Please Note: The Rink cast is made up of two women and six men. The two women are Anna and Angel. The men are “The Wreckers”. In flashbacks, the men will play all the people in Anna’s and Angel’s past: men and women; young and old.

Kander & Ebb’s The Rink made its Broadway debut in 1984 and was nominated for five Tony Awards. In 1978 a failing skating rink in a decaying boardwalk is the setting for the relationship between an estranged mother and daughter, and their arguments and reconnection. The Rink is a story of forgiveness. Mother and daughter learn to let go of the past in order to be free to move into the future.

SEEKING:

Anna: CAST Female, 48 - 58.Mezz-Soprano - An Italian housewife who runs a roller-skating rink on the Eastern seaboard. As she prepares to abandon it, her estranged daughter returns after a long absence, and she is forced to face some difficult decisions from her past. Portrays Anna over a 30- year period in flashbacks. Excellent dancer.

Angel: Female - 30. Mezz-Soprano – Anna’s estranged daughter returns after a long absence, hoping to save the rink and patch things up with her mother. Portrays Angel over a 30-year period in flashbacks. Good dancer.

Lino/Lenny/Punk/Uncle Fausto: Male – 30 - 40. Tenor – A dynamic voice, doubles a variety of characters and changes quality’s depending on who he is. Good dancer, Ability to roller skate. Italian accent as Uncle Fausto.

Buddy/Hiram/Mrs. Jackson/Charlie/Suitor/Junior Miller: Male – 25 - 40. Tenor/Baritone – A dynamic voice, doubles a variety of characters and changes quality’s depending on who he is, including an old lady. Good dancer, Ability to roller skate.

Guy/Dino/Father Rocco/Debbie Duberman: Male – 30 - 45. Tenor/Baritone – A dynamic voice, doubles a variety of characters and changes quality’s depending on who he is. Good dancer, Ability to roller skate.

Lucky/Sugar/Punk/Arnie/Suitor/Bobby Perillo/Danny: Male – 21 - 35. Tenor/Baritone – A dynamic voice, doubles a variety of characters and changes quality’s depending on who he is. Good dancer.

Tony/Tom/Punk/Suitor/Peter Reilly: Male – 25 - 35. Tenor/Baritone – A dynamic voice, doubles a variety of characters and changes quality’s depending on who he is. Good dancer, Ability to roller skate.

Ben/Dino's Father/Sister Philomena: Male – 40 - 60. Tenor/Baritone – A dynamic voice, doubles a variety of characters and changes quality’s depending on who he is including an old lady. Good dancer, Ability to roller skate. Italian accent as Dino’s Father.

JERSEY BOYS

1st rehearsal: February 24, 2025. Runs March 6 – 9 and 13 - 16 at 7:30, March 8, 9, 15, 16 at 2:00, 2025.

Jersey Boys, the 2006 Tony Award-winning Best Musical, dramatizes the formation, success, and breakup of the 1960s group, The Four Seasons. The musical is structured in four seasons, each narrated by a different member of the group who gives his own perspective on the history and music of The Four Seasons. Jersey Boys is a high-energy, innovative musical that takes audiences behind the scenes of the group and its music in a classic rags-to-riches -- and back to rags -- story.

SEEKING:

Tommy Devito: Male, 30-40 - Strong tenor/baritone voice, comfortable with traditional four-part harmonies; funny; a wise-guy; a natural-born leader with appealing bad-boy quality. New Jersey Accent. Moves well. NOTE: ability to play guitar a plus, but not required.

Frankie Valli: Male, 20-35 - 5’9 or shorter; Has a strong tenor with sweet and strong falsetto and be able to sing in the style of Frankie Valli; strong tenor to high A or Bb plus strong falsetto up to treble G; charismatic and charming; possesses a gritty side as well as a polished veneer; very comfortable with four-part harmonies. New Jersey Accent. Moves well.

Nick Massi: Male, 30-40 - Strong bass/baritone voice, comfortable with traditional four-part harmonies; a quiet dreamer who longs for life after The Four Seasons; understated with a dead-pan quality. New Jersey Accent. Moves well.

Bob Gaudio: CAST Male 20-35 - Strong tenor/baritone voice - comfortable with traditional four-part harmonies; an intelligent, sensitive, and introspective musical prodigy. New Jersey Accent. Moves well.

Joe Pesci: Male 20-35 - 5’9 or shorter; young, energetic and funny; a strong singer. Doubles various roles. Ensemble. New Jersey Accent. Moves well.

Bob Crewe: Male 30-40 - Intelligent and flamboyant; genius music producer and lyricist; an integral part of creating the magic of The Four Seasons. Doubles various roles. Ensemble. Moves well.

Norm Waxman: Male, 25-40 Owns a private money lending agency. Doubles various roles; strong tenor/bari-tenor voice. Ensemble. Moves well.

Gyp DeCarlo: Male, 45-55 - Tough, Mafioso type; a strong singer. Doubles various roles. Ensemble. Moves well.

MARY & OTHERS: Female, 25-39 - Frankie’s wife; tough, “Seen it all”, Italian, Jersey girl; she’s got a killer sense of humor; Doubles a variety of other roles including member of a 60’s style girl group; strong belt; very good dancer. Ensemble. Jersey Accent as Mary. NOTE: High, straight tone soprano also useful.

LORRAINE & OTHERS: Female, 20-35 Frankie’s girlfriend; educated; not from Jersey; a career girl; young Diane Sawyer type; Doubles a variety of other roles, including member of a 60’s style girl group and tough-as-nails Jersey girl; strong high belt. Very good dancer. Ensemble. NOTE: Belt to high F extremely useful; high, straight tone soprano also useful.

FRANCINE & OTHERS: Female 20-35 Frankie’s daughter; named for, doted on and deeply loved by Frankie. She’s a Jersey girl—vulnerable, lost and acts out to make up for lack of attention from her dad. Doubles a variety of other roles including member of a 60’s style girl group and a tough-as-nails Jersey girl. Strong, high belt. Very good dancer. Ensemble. GHOST (Small Cast version)

Book by Bruce Joel Rubin, Music & Lyrics by Dave Stewart & Glan Ballard

1st rehearsal: May 26, 2025. Runs June 5 – 8 and June 12 - 15 at 7:30, June 7, 8, 15 at 2:00, 2025.

Ghost: The Musical is an adaptation of the 1990 Academy Award-winning hit film. Sam and Molly are deeply in love. Their connection takes a shocking turn when Sam is killed in a mugging that turns out to be a planned murder by a close associate of the couple. Unwilling and unable to leave Molly, Sam hovers between two worlds and learns the truth of his murder. Ghost: The Musical is a touching love story about a connection that even death cannot sever.

SEEKING:

Sam Wheat: Male 30-40 - In love with his long-term girlfriend, Molly; Murdered suddenly. Must come to terms with his death and find his killer. Strong vocalist. Moves well. Vocal Range: G# to Bb (Pop/Rock Tenor with high belt). NOTE: Experience in stage combat, and guitar skills a plus.

Molly Jensen: Female 25-35 - An artist living in New York City with her boyfriend, Sam, until he's murdered. Must help Sam avenge his death. A strong vocalist with a wide range. Vocal Range: G3 to Eb5 (pop/rock with strong belt)

Oda Mae Brown: Black Female 35-45 - Spiritual advisor/Psychic with a questionable background. Larger-than-life character, great comedic timing, and a big heart. Vocal Range: Ab3 to F5

Carl Bruner: Male 30-40 - Sam’s best friend. Has hidden unsavory motives. Vocal Range: Eb3 to A4. NOTE: Stage combat experience a plus.

Subway Ghost/Orlando Jones/Ensemble: Male 25-40 - Aggressive ghost who eventually aids Sam in learning about his powers in the afterlife. NOTE: Extremely physical role that must be able to embody a large imposing force. Stage combat and physicality/movement experience preferred; experience with rap is helpful.

Willie Lopez/Ensemble: Male 25-35 - Hired by Carl Bruner to steal Sam Wheat’s wallet, which results in Sam’s murder. NOTE: Stage combat experience a plus.

Clara/Ortisha Jones/First Nun/Ensemble: Black Female 25-40 - Works with Oda Mae at her spiritual shop. Has a strong voice. Vocal Range: C4 to G5

Louise/Officer Wallace/Ensemble: Female 25-40 - Works with Oda Mae at her spiritual shop. Has a strong voice. Officer Wallace - Detective investigating Sam Wheat’s murder case. Vocal Range: F3- G5

Mrs. Santiago/Bank Officer/Second Nun/Ensemble: Female 35-45 – Ensemble

Hospital Ghost/Lionel Ferguson/Ensemble: Male 35-50 - First ghost Sam meets following his death. A strong vocalist. Vocal Range: C3 to A4
