Hilary: Female, 20s-30s, any race/ethnicity. A doctoral student in psychology who is a philosopher at heart. She prays every night but claims it’s mostly for the psychological benefits. Researcher at the Krohl Institute for Brain Science.
Spike: Male, 30s-40s, Caucasian. Hilary’s tutor and lover. Fierce materialist, Egotistical and unwavering.
Amal: Male, 20s-30s. Indian-American. Mathematician and biophysicist who is employed at Jerry’s hedge-fund to model and predict global markets. Dating Bo.
Julia: Female, 20s-30s, any race/ethnicity. Pilates instructor who went to high school with Hilary. Compassionate, even-tempered. Dating Ursula.
Ursula: Female, 20s-30s, any race/ethnicity. Brain scientist working at the Krohl Institute. Direct and uncompromising. Wry sense of humor. Dating Julia.
Leo: Male, 40s-50s, Caucasian. Head of the Krohl Institute. A little bit in love with Hilary. More interested in ''minds'' than ''brains.''
Jerry: Male, 50s-60s, Caucasian. Founder of the Krohl Institute, incredibly wealthy. Kind and authoritative patriarch at home and overbearing boss in office.
