SEEKING

Seeking to cast non-traditionally, Equity actor/singers for various roles.
Actors of all ethnicities encouraged.

PREPARATION

Please prepare 2 brief, contrasting contemporary musical theatre selections, one of which must be a Sondheim piece. Please bring 3 (three) headshots & resumes.

Sweeney Todd
(Male - Age: 40 to 50) A wrongfully imprisoned barber looking to reclaim the family he has lost. Initially, a conflicted seeker of revenge though develops into a cold blooded assassin. Vocal range top: Gb4 Vocal range bottom: F2

Mrs. Lovett
(Female - Age: 35 to 45) A manipulative charmer with tremendous insight into the motivating factors of others. Strong sexuality and sensuality which she deploys on Sweeny.
Vocal range top: E5 Vocal range bottom: G3

Anthony Hope
(Male - Age: 20 to 30) A jock. Idealistic and easily swayed. His love for Joanna is initially based on saving the “damsel in distress”, but develops into a deeper level.

Johanna
(Female - Age: 18 to 21) Headstrong, desperate to experience something resembling a life. Vocal range top: A5 Vocal range bottom: Bb3

Tobias Ragg
(Male - Age: 12 to 18) Orphan desperately seeking a semblance of a family structure. Latches on to Mrs. Lovett as a mother figure. Vocal range top: Ab4 Vocal range bottom: Bb2

Judge Turpin
(Male - Age: 50 to 65) A lecherous public official who portrays himself as a sanctimonious authoritarian. He takes advantage of his position in the city and is responsible for imprisoning Todd. Vocal range top: Gb4 Vocal range bottom: E2

The Beadle
(Male - Age: 40 to 55) A sycophant who relishes his ability to dominate others. Sees himself as well liked and man of the town. Vocal range top: D5 Vocal range bottom: D3

Beggar Woman
(Female - Age: 35 to 50) A deranged and schizophrenic woman who harbors a dark, surprising secret. Vocal range top: F5 Vocal range bottom: Ab3

Adolfo Pirelli/Doubles as Male Factory Worker
(Male - Age: 30 to 45) A flamboyant Italian rival barber; a charlatan with a secret past. Vocal range top: C5 Vocal range bottom: B2

Jonas Fogg/Doubles as Male Factory Worker
(Male - Age: 35 to 60) The owner of Fogg's Asylum. He sells the hair of madmen to wigmakers. Vocal Type: Bass/Baritone

Female Factory Worker 1
(Female – Age 20-45) Plays multiple roles. Vocal Type: Soprano
