SEEKING
All roles in the world premiere of SHREW'D, a musical adaptation of The Taming of the Shrew. All roles require singers who move well. Particularly interested in actors who play piano and any of the following instruments: piano, stand-up bass, drums, clarinet, trombone, trumpet. See breakdown for details.
PREPARATION
Please prepare 1 Shakespeare monologue, 1 1/2 minute max. (comedy preferred) and 32 bars of one song in the American Songbook Style (eg. Gershwins, Eubie Blake, Rodgers & Hart, Cole Porter, Fats Waller, Louis Jordan, Van Heusen & Cahn, etc.)

BREAKDOWN
Kate (Alto): Strong willed, confident woman in her 20's; runs the Chicago nightclub owned by her father
Petruchio (Baritone): Strong, confident man in his 30's; looking for something, but doesn't really know what it is
Baptista (Baritone or Tenor): 50's or 60's; loving father with two strong-willed daughters who keep him more focused on them than on the nightclub he runs
Bianca (Soprano with strong dance skills in tap, jazz, ballet): early 20's; the songbird of the nightclub; seems soft and gentle but has an inner core of strength she is not afraid to show
Lucentio (Tenor with strong dance skills in tap, jazz, ballet): early 20's; student of dance and music looking to make his mark on the world in Chicago
Tranio (Alto with good comedic skills, very physical, strong dancer): 20's or 30's; Lucentio's best friend; female identifying but able to pull off the pretense of being disguised as Lucentio
Grumio (Baritone or Tenor with good comedic skills): Petruchios's best friend/employee; 20's to 40's
Hortensio (Baritone or Tenor): Lucentio’s rival; Chicago businessman; 30’s to 40’s
Gremio (Baritone or Tenor): another of Lucentio’s rivals; weak and dithering Chicago businessman 50’s to 70’s
Vincentio (Baritone or Tenor): Lucentio’s father; strong and confident businessman from out of state
50’s Salesman (Bartione or Tenor): dithering, weak-willed traveling salesman who pretends to be Vincentio; 40’s to 60’s
