BREAKDOWN
SEEKING:
Louis de Rougemont - Male, 35-55. Any ethnicity. Louis is a man with an adventurous spirit and vivid imagination. He is a storyteller, full of life and vitality. Louis believes himself to be a man of the world, with many life experiences that put him in the same class of adventurers as Robinson Crusoe. He has a grand presence that he casts on the audience as he tells his story. He is spry and nimble, portraying varying stages of his life. One moment he is a sickly child, the next he is a wide-eyed teenage adventurer performing handstands and acrobatics, and a moment later he is an elderly man reflecting at the end of his life. He is charismatic, warm and vivacious making him very likeable and easy to believe. Louis wants nothing more than to share his adventures with the world.
Player #1 - Female, 25-40. Woman of color preferred. This actor portrays more than 10 characters and should be able to easily and effortlessly transform physically and vocally in very little time. She must be proficient in a large variety of dialects and have great physicality. She primarily plays Yamba and Captain Jensen. Yamba is a beautiful and exotic aborigine tribeswoman who falls in love with Louis. She is Louis’s inspiration to attempt to flee the deserted island. Captain Jensen, an “old drunken sea dog” is the fearless leader of the good ship, The Wonder World. He is greedy, scrappy and will always put profits ahead of the safety of his crew.
Player #2 - Male, 25-40. Any ethnicity. From Queen Victoria to a Wombat Expert, this actor portrays over 15 characters and must have the ability to transform physically and vocally in very little time. He must be proficient in a large variety of dialects. Knowledge of basic Foley a plus, as he also provides many of the sound effects. He spends much of the story as Bruno, Louis’s loyal pet dog, and should be nimble and physically adept. His Queen Victoria is humorous, and yet a touch of grace.
