SYNOPSIS: Queens of the Golden Mask is set in Celestial, Alabama in the early 1960s and follows the lives of a group of women as they bake and sew and participate in Women’s Auxiliary of the Ku Klux Klan. This play examines the repercussions of normalizing hate.
PREPARATION
Actors will read from sides. Sides will be available at the audition (and will be posted on the theatre's website at: www.ivorytonplayhouse.com). Bring picture and resume.

BREAKDOWN
Ida Sage / Moma (Mow-Maw) - 65 or older. Backbone of the group and staunch supporter of segregation. Mother of Hubie-George Jr.. A simple, yet powerful, woman with two distinctly different faces. “The Queens” are her pride.
Faith Carlyle - 45ish. Southern born and bred in Celestial - part of Ida’s circle of friends. She shares her husband’s involvement and has an easy, somewhat laid back way about her.
Martha Nell Sage - barely 21. Sold to be Hubie-George’s wife at the age of 16. Vulnerable, thin, lonely, and gentle.
Ophelia Barnett / Fifi - late 50’s. An enthusiastic lifetime member. Full of put on airs and gossip. Unloved and unnoticed by her husband.
Jean Mooney - 40ish. An unexpectedly complicated woman, well-hidden beneath a gruff, wise-cracking exterior. Raised in Celestial and the ways of the “fiery cross.”
Kathy (Two) Boggs - 18ish. Cheerleader enthusiastic, constantly pregnant child bride of the mayor’s son. Anxious to be accepted by Celestial’s grown-up world and leave her trailer park roots behind.
Rose Jackson - 25ish. An Ohio Yankee, just married to a Celestial hometown boy after a whirlwind courtship. A teacher by trade and passion, Rose is intelligent, kind, and good-hearted.
