Actors for Jane Austen’s 'Pride and Prejudice', A Musical
Preparation
The men should have good carriage as well as a strong talent for movement in a classical style. You may also be asked to sing a classic musical theater selection. Please bring jazz shoes.

Rehearsal: 3/20 Open: 4/17 and Close: 5/10
Performances are Wednesday and Thursdaynight (7:30pm), Friday 8pm, Saturday 2pm and 8pm and Sunday matinee (2pm)

BREAKDOWN:
JANE AUSTEN:30-40. Strong actress with strong voice. Witty, clever and thoughtful with a touch of snarkiness. As a recently published female author in Regency-era England, she is ahead of her time. Over the course of the story telling, Austen also assumes the role of MRS. REYNOLDS (Darcy’s housekeeper). Mezzo-belter. (G3 to F5)
CASSANDRA AUSTEN:30-40. Jane Austen’s sister. Protective and practical. Austen’s most trusted confidante. Over the course of the story telling, she assumes the roles of CHARLOTTE LUCAS and MRS. GARDINER. Charlotte: Elizabeth’s best friend, of average beauty, modest, sensible and intelligent. Mrs. Gardiner: Elizabeth’s elegant and amiable aunt. Mezzo-belter. (A3 to E5)
ELIZABETH BENNET:20’s, A non-traditional beauty: small and athletic. She is good-humored and has a quick-wit. She loves books and the outdoors. Soprano with belt. (A3 to G5)
JANE BENNET: 20s, the Bennet’s eldest daughter, extremely beautiful and lovely with a fair complexion. A kind and gentle soul. Soprano. (A-flat3 to E5) 11/5/14
FITZWILLIAM DARCY: 25-35. Tall, dark, handsome and extremely wealthy. He is snobby and shy, but is also kind and generous to those he is responsible to. Baritone. (A2 to G#4)
CHARLES BINGLEY: 20s. Bingley: a good-looking wealthy bachelor; easy going and friendly. Darcy’s best friend. Also plays Dream Soldier: One of Lydia’s fantasy singing and dancing soldiers. Tenor. (E-flat3 to A4)
CAROLINE BINGLEY: 20s. Bingley’s sister. Fashionable, conceited and proud. (Also doubles vocally as ensemble) Soprano. (B3 to G5)
GEORGE WICKHAM: 25-35. Extremely attractive and charismatic soldier (grew up with Darcy); also plays a variety of characters including a DREAM SOLDIER. Strong dance skills. Bari-tenor. (C3 to G4)
MRS. BENNET/LADY CATHERINE DE BOURGH: 50-60.
Mrs. Bennet: a high-strung mother of five daughters, a fading beauty who loves to gossip.
Lady Catherine: authoritative and self important with striking features, Darcy’s aunt. Soprano with belt. (C4 to A5)
MR. BENNET: 50-60, Elizabeth’s father, a country gentleman with an odd mixture of quick parts, sarcastic humor, reserve and caprice. His principal enjoyments arise from the countryside and books. Baritone. (A2 to E3)
LYDIA BENNET: 18+ to play 15. The Bennet’s youngest daughter. Beautiful and well-endowed at an early age. She loves to laugh and loves to gossip. Also self-willed and careless. Strong dance skills. Soprano with belt. (A3 to G5)
MARY BENNET/GEORGIANA DARCY: 20’s to play late teens.
Mary: a great reader and philosophizer; enjoys playing the piano, but is technical without musicality (NOTE: Actress is NOT required to play, keyboard in pit will double). As the middle child, she is the most homely and the most overlooked/ignored of the Bennet sisters.
Georgiana: Darcy’s young sister. Gentle and graceful. Mezzo-belter. (A3 to E5)
KITTY BENNET/ANNE DE BOURGH: 20s.
Kitty:Lydia’s side-kick, silly and fretful.
Anne: thin, small, pale and sickly. Soprano with belt. (G3 to E5)
MR. COLLINS: late 20s-early 30s, conceited clergyman; also plays a variety of other characters including a DREAM SOLDIER. Strong dance skills. Tenor. (D3 to A4)
MALE ENSEMBLE 1: 40 – 50. To play a variety of characters including MR. GARDINER (Mrs. Bennet’s friendly brother, Elizabeth’s uncle). Baritone.
MALE ENSEMBLE 2: 20 – 40. To play a variety of characters. Strong dance skills. Must sing as well.
