Preparation
Dancers: men bring kneepads, women bring heels. Also prepare 16 bars of an up-tempo song and 16 bars of a ballad in case asked to sing.

Singers: prepare 16 bars of a traditional up-tempo song and 16 bars of a ballad.

Accompanist provided.

Bring headshot and resume stapled together.

Breakdown

On the coast of Cornwall, at the time of Queen Victoria's reign, Frederic celebrates the completion of his 21st year and the end of his apprenticeship to a tender-hearted band of pirates. He meets Mabel, the daughter of Major-General Stanley, and the two young people fall instantly in love. Frederic soon learns, however, that he was born on the 29th of February, and so, technically, he only has a birthday each leap year. His indenture specifies that he remain apprenticed to the pirates until his 21st birthday and that he must serve for another 63 years. Bound by his own sense of duty, Frederic's only solace is that Mabel agrees to wait for him faithfully.

Male. Must be superb comic/character dancers. Acrobatic skills a plus.

6 Ensemble Pirates (including Samuel)
Male. The pirate crew are rather like barking dogs who love the barking but are ready to run away if things get serious. Must be superb comic/character dancers. Acrobatic and sword skills a plus.

4 Daughters (including Kate, Edith and Mabel – as listed above. 4th daughter, Isabelle, has smaller singing role.) Female. The more individual and vivid each daughter is, the better. Big, legitimate voices are essential.
Must move well.
