PREPARATION
2 short contrasting appropriate monologues (can be from season but not necessary) or one monologue and 16 bars. Accompanist will be present. No Shakespeare. Singing auditions for THE DROWSY CHAPERONE will be Dec. 11.

BREAKDOWN
NOW AND THEN:
Jamie - (late 20's - early 30's) bartender and aspiring pianist, attractive in a regular guy way, fit, sincere, hardworking, very much in love with Abby.
Man - CAST (mid 60's) a bit beaten down but good natured, easy to talk to, well spoken, sincere and very intent on his mission tonight. Husband of 35 years to Woman. He is desperate tonight.
Abby - (late 20s - early 30s) IHOP waitress and one time English major. attractive and funny, very much in love with Jamie.
Woman - (mid 60's or a bit younger) strong, direct, loving, a little coarse. She is Man's wife of 35 years. She and Man bicker but there is a bedrock of love there.
MISS HOLMES:
Sherlock Holmes - (30s-40s) a woman, but absolutely true to Arthur Conan Doyle creation. She helps women with problems that cannot be addressed through customary means.
Dorothy Watson - (30s-40s) a surgeon who has worked very hard against much adversity to become one of the few female doctors of the time, brave, no nonsense.
Lizzie Chapman - a young wife, fearful of her husband, who consults Holmes. Also plays Peggy, a maid, and Martha, a washerwoman.
Eudora Featherstone - an elderly, grieving mother. Also plays Mrs. Hudson, Sherlock's disapproving landlady, and Elizabeth Garrett Anderson, the first woman to qualify as a doctor in England.
Mycroft Holmes - Sherlock's older brother. Also plays a vagrant.
Gregory Lestrade - (30s-40s) a Scotland Yard detective, a good man. Also plays an orderly.
Thomas Chapman - a Scotland Yard detective under investigation for criminal behavior and possibly murder, married to Lizzie. Also plays an orderly.
Michael Stamford - a doctor hoping to marry Dorothy Watson. He is a man circumscribed by convention and his mother. Also plays Reginald, Eudora's inheritance-seeking nephew, and an orderly.
Edwin Greener - an army veteran and petty criminal. Also plays the Superintendent of Bethlem Royal Hospital.
THE DROWSY CHAPERONE:
Man in Chair - CAST
Mrs. Tottendale - (45-60) the air-headed, wealthy and bubbly hostess of the wedding. Alto character voice (G3-Db5)
Underling - (50s-60s) Mrs. Tottendale's unflappable and dry-humored butler. Tenor character voice (Ab2-G4)
Robert Martin - (30-40) the groom-to-be deeply in love with Janet, dashing and cheerful. Must tap dance and roller skate. Tenor (C3-Ab4)
George - (30s-40s) Robert's anxious but loyal best man. Must tap. Tenor (F3-Bb4)
Mr. Feldzeig - (40s-50s) harried producer who will do anything to stop the wedding in order to keep Janet in the Follies. Baritone (Db3-Db4)
Kitty - (30s) 1920's dumb blonde chorine who will do anything to be a leading lady. Soprano comic belt (Bb3-F5)
Gangsters 1 & 2 - (30s-40s) two jovial gangsters posing as pastry chefs. Good comic timing and dancing skills. Tenor (Db3-Gb4)
Adolpho - (40s) Latin lothario impressed with himself. Vaudeville-style acting with great comic timing. Bass/Baritone + great falsetto (A#2-G4)
Janet Van de Graaf - (30s) star of Feldzieg's Follies, conflicted about her upcoming marriage. Attractive and vivacious. Loves being the center of attention. Strong movement and special skills (acrobatics, juggling, etc.) a plus. Alto with big belt (G3-E5)
The Drowsy Chaperone - (40s-50s) Janet's alcoholic confidante. Care-free woman of the world and a gleeful, melodramatic diva. Alto with strong belt (F3-D5)
Trix the Aviatrix - (35-50) the brave and brash female aviator, sassy and sleek. May double in ensemble. Alto (Ab3-Eb5) Superintendant, staff, reporters
LIVING ON LOVE:
Raquel De Angelis - one of the greatest opera singers on the planet, beguiling, when she enters a room everyone in the room knows it. Her career is just starting to wane.
Vito De Angelis - her husband, one of the greatest conductors on the planet, thick Italian accent, legendary temper. His career is also just starting to wane.
Robert Samson - (late 20s-early 30s) an aspiring novelist who's forced to ghost write to earn a living, a little intense.
Iris Peabody - (mid 20s) a dedicated career woman, she has no time for men, she also likes to drink.
Bruce and Eric - strict and loyal nearly identical servants and ex-opera singers. Need to sing together - Largo al factotum from THE BARBER OF SEVILLE, Aranci, Datteri from LA BOHEME, Votre Toast from CARMEN and Makin' Whoopee.
SALVAGE:
Jason Byrnes - (30s) a collectable's store owner with a boyish demeanor. Loves memorabilia and classic rock. Very worried about financially being able to keep his shop open.
Sarah Smith - (30s) a lovely young woman, dressed professionally, seemingly shy at first as a customer. We discover she has a very checkered past and knows what she wants.
