OUR AMERICAN QUEEN
SYNOPSIS:
Kate Chase, daughter of Salmon Chase, President Lincoln's Treasury Secretary, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, and three-time Presidential candidate, earned the moniker 'Our American Queen.' Despite the limitations on American women's political power in the 19th century, Kate emerged as a formidable force with her astute political acumen as the 20th century approached. While possessing beauty, charisma, and influence, true queens are often defined by their wealth. Kate lacked this until her marriage at twenty-three to one of the country's wealthiest men during the Civil War. Many speculated she wed for financial reasons, crucial for funding her father's presidential ambitions, rather than for love. This is that story.
Kate Chase (Woman. Early – mid 20s. Caucasian) Kate is a 23-year-old ambitious and extremely intelligent young woman who is the embodiment of an independent spirit. She is beautiful, charismatic, with tremendous presence and magnetism and a deep understanding of politics.
Salmon P. Chase (Male. Early – mid 50s. Caucasian) He is arrogant, intelligent, righteous, resolute, overbearing, and ambitious. Morally and ethically believes he is the best man for the job.
John Hay (Male. Mid 20s. Caucasian) He is a poet known for his kindness, and earnest nature. At first glance he is not visually appealing, but his talent compensates for what he lacks in looks. He is charismatic and appealing.
