Breakdown
In 1957, in the rural town of Coalwood, West Virginia, school is just something you do until you’re old enough to work in the mines. When the Soviets launch the Sputnik rocket, a local high school senior sees it as his chance to be somebody, to head for space instead of into the ground. He decides to build a rocket and enter it in the National Science Fair, against the wishes of his domineering dad. He gets some help from his friends and the community, but will he make it? And what else will change in his life as a result. OCTOBER SKY is inspired by the 1999 movie, which was based on a true story.
