Breakdown

Preparation for Singing/Acting Auditions:

Please prepare two brief songs (one up-tempo and one ballad) appropriate to summer shows. Note that there may be time to perform one selection only. Bring sheet music in the correct key; an accompanist will be provided, but will not transpose. If auditioning for Avenue Q, please also bring a brief comic monologue. Some may be asked to stay for the dance call. Bring appropriate dancewear and character shoes.

Please bring a picture & resume, stapled back-to-back.


Preparation for Dancing auditions:

Please be warmed up and ready to dance when the call begins. Wear appropriate dancewear and have character shoes. Some may be asked to stay and sing after all have danced. Please prepare 16 bars of a musical theatre song. Bring sheet music in the correct key; an accompanist will be provided, but will not transpose.

Please bring a picture & resume, stapled back-to-back.

MR. APPLEGATE
Male. 40’s–50’s. Baritone. A slick salesman able to coerce and outsmart the masses. A charismatic actor with strong comic timing and the ability to woo the audience.

JOE BOYD
Male. 50’s. Baritone. An avid baseball fan and real-estate agent who makes a deal with the devil for the sake of his team. Must be able to play a sweet, warm husband, a shrewd negotiator and a long-suffering fan.

JOE HARDY
Male. 20’s-30’s. Baritone. The alter ego of Joe Boyd. Handsome, athletic, and the mysterious, home-run hitting “phenom” of the Washington Senators

MEG BOYD
Female. 50’s. Mezzo-Soprano. The very strong, loving, and loyal wife of Joe Boyd. She is the ultimate “baseball widow.” She loves her husband and the life they have together and will fight for that life.

LOLA
Female. 20’s-30’s. Alto. Once the ugliest girl in Rhode Island, Lola sold her soul in exchange for eternal youth and beauty. Looking for a very commanding triple-threat.

VAN BUREN
Male. 40’s–60’s. Tenor. The hapless coach of the Washington Senators. Witty and sweet, he is a fatherly-figure who staunchly defends his players and his team.

MR. WELCH
Male. 50’s–60’s. Baritone. The passionate owner of the Washington Senators.

DORIS
Female. 50’s. Mezzo-Soprano. A funny character actress who is a friend of Meg’s.

SISTER
Female. 50’s. Mezzo-Soprano. A funny character actress who is a friend of Meg’s.

ROCKY
Male. 20’s–30’s. Tenor. Strong dancer/singer. A player with the Washington Senators. Cocky and a little dopey.

SMOKEY
Male. 20’s–30’s. Tenor. Strong dancer/singer. The tough-guy catcher for the Washington Senators. Not the brightest bulb....

SOHOVIK
Male. 20’s–30’s. Tenor. Strong dancer/singer. A player with the Washington Senators. Smart and level headed.

MALE ENSEMBLE
20’s: Strong, athletic dancer/singers to play baseball players, husbands and fans.

FEMALE ENSEMBLE
30’s: A diverse group of dancer/singers to play various roles including wives and fans.
