The Eugene O'Neill Theater Center presents staged readings of six (6) new plays during the National Playwrights Conference. Each new play is in residence for one week between June 27th - July 20th , 2014.
Other
EPA for the O'Neill National Music Theatre Conference will also be held on May 1st at Ripley Grier, same times, but in a different studio. (see separte notice)

BRIGHT HALF LIFE
Seeking:
ERIKA: female, 38-50, any ethnicity. Erika is intelligent, disorganized, big-hearted and adorably neurotic. A soft butch.
VICKY: female, similar age as Erika, any ethnicity. Vicky is more grounded and business-like; a very “capable” person. Beneath her shell of competence, she’s sensitive and sensual.
** Casting Note:
These women are a lesbian couple that traverse 25 years throughout the course of the play. The shifts in time are instantaneous and come without warning requiring a quick and flexible actresses. The nature of this play requires emotional gymnastics.

Jess - early 30's; severely distorted by third degree burns, uses a walker; quick-witted, intelligent, tough; trying to have strength in her body, vulnerability in her life
Kacie- Jess' older sister by a few years ; was probably beautiful once ; sweet, trying hard for positivity
Stevie - early 30's; an inviting smile that makes you want to live in it; life just keeps happening to him
Kelvin- older than Kacie; too comfortable in his own skin; a loveable loser
Voice/Their Mom- 60's (ish); passionate, powerful, maternal; casting preference should be given to someone with a strong vocal quality

DAVID: Seventies. A famous playwright. Ella’s father.

THE IMAGINARY CRITIC WHO DOESN’ EXIST
Seeking:
LACEY: A thirty-eight year-old white lady with tattoos. She's a career rock writer and the Editor-in-Chief of, like, probably the most popular music news and reviews site on the internet, dischord.com.
JUSTIN: A black guy in his early thirties. A once promising MC, he's now the Producer of the annual music festival produced by Dischord. He's worked remotely ever since he and LACEY stopped dating about a year ago. He has the number one tattooed on the back of one of his hands. [NB: The actor who plays JUSTIN also doubles as #FRANKIE at the beginning of Act II.]
KAITLYN: A white lady in her early twenties with a choppy side shave and a septum piercing. She's a kind-of-mousey/kind-of-hate-filled hipster who's interning under LACEY. She's also the daughter of the site’s Publisher.
DRENA: An overwhelmingly charming black lady in her early to mid-forties. The booking agent for several big-name hip-hop acts. She and LACEY go way back because they used to work at Rolling Stone together.
