Emcee (20s+, any gender, Range: C3-G4) The host at the Kit Kat Club. A magnetic performer who acts as ringleader for the entire story.
Sally Bowles - (20s-30s, she/her, Range: E3-C5) An effervescent British cabaret performer and want-to-be actress; the headliner at Berlin's Kit Kat Club.
Clifford Bradshaw (20s-30s, he/him, Range: C#3-E4) An idealistic aspiring American novelist traveling to Berlin for inspiration amongst its underground arts scene.
Fräulein Schneider (50s-70s, she/her, Range: Eb3-B4) Female, early 50s-early 70s. A practical landlady who rents rooms in her large flat. Begins a romance with Herr Schultz.
Herr Schultz (50s-70s, he/him, Range: C3-G4) A Jewish fruit shop owner who falls in love with Fraulein Schneider and strives to make a life with her in spite of the political circumstances.
Fräulein Kost (20s-50s, she/her, Range: F#3-Eb5) A prostitute and lodger in Fraulein Schneider's boarding house.
Ernst Ludwig (Range: D3-F#4) Male, late 20s-mid 30s. Life and soul, dependable yet enigmatic; he takes English lessons from Cliff. He’s Cliff’s first ‘true’ friend upon arrival to Berlin. Everyone knows him; everyone loves him. He appears witty, charming, and warm but, ultimately, a Nazi. Baritone.
Ensemble - 5 additional people of any age or gender to play a variety of roles in the ensemble. Primarily Kit Kat Klub dancers, and also other roles such as Max, Customs Agent, Rudy, and sailors.

Heidi Holland (she/her) Portrays character from late teens to her late 30's. An art historian and writer, highly articulate, intelligent, thoughtful.
Scoop Rosenbaum (he/him) Portrays character from his early 20s through his late 30s. Heidi's sometime lover, a charismatic, Jewish journalist with irresistible charm and humor.
Peter Patrone (he/him) Portrays character from late teens through his late 30's. Heidi's best friend. A clever and well-spoken pediatrician.
Susan Johnston (she/her) Portrays character from late teens through her late 30's. Heidi's oldest friend who throws herself fully into whatever she pursues in life.
3 Ensemble members (she/her) play characters from teens to 30s. Including a lesbian graduate student, a member of a Montana Women's Collective, a pregnant magazine editor, the host of Hello New York, a T.V. talk show, a teenager looking for help at a women's group, a 1980s yuppie, and more.
1 Ensemble member (he/him) Plays characters from teens to 30s. Including a prep school student council president and an anesthesiologist.

Esther (she/her, mid-20s-early 30s) feels young, impressionable, eager and yet no-nonsense too; she’s Jewish (Hasidic).
Schmuli (he/him, 30s) formal, not totally comfortable in his skin, also Hasidic; should have the capacity for deep surprising emotion; he is a profoundly gentle person.
Abe (he/him, mid 30s-early 40s) an intellectual who enjoys seducing with language; he’s charming but also self-effacing, humble, confused, and trying his best; he’s Jewish.
Sophie (she/her, mid 30s-early 40s) Abe’s wife, dry and intelligent and world-weary; she is biracial: Caucasian/Jewish and Black.
Julia Cheever (she/her, mid 30s-early 40s) a movie star with an abundance of outward charm and confidence; she is poised and polished, but not without vulnerability.

Sherlock Holmes (Male 30s – 40s). The iconic detective. Highly intelligent, confident, charismatic, quick-witted, obsessive.
Doctor Watson (he/him 30s - 50s) Smart, grounded, and full of heart and wonder, lives to have adventures and assist his close friend Holmes. We see the play through his eyes.
Track One (he/him 20s – 50s) Must show great versatility and nimbleness physically and vocally (including multiple dialects). Doubles multiple roles.
