Seeking
Equity actors, men and women, for various roles in the upcoming season shows.

Preparation
Actors should prepare two contrasting monologues, at least one of which should be classical. Total time for both pieces together should be no more than 2 minutes.

Bring picture and resume, stapled together.

Performance Run: November 14 – December 14, 2013

A comedy from an American theatrical master about a prodigal son returning to his small-town home to inherit the family chewing gum business.

MEN

Rankin
40s-50s, Long suffering butler. Perfectly able to manage his wayward boss.

Jackson Jones
25, Fast-talking prodigal son, faced with the choice of living the New York high-life or growing up.

Robert Wallace
25-39, Sensible, take-charge best friend of the prodigal.

Mrs. Gerard/Grover Wallace
50s-60s, Actor will double as both stern, imperious father and deluded, love struck widow.

Peter Pembroke
30s-40s, Second vice president of the Consolidated Chewing Gum Company of America.

Sam Spotswood
late teens-early 20s, Small town boy, dreams of making it all the way to New Haven. Does not play the banjo well.

Judge Spotswood
50s-60s, Kindly small town judge. Don’t tell his wife that he takes a drink now and then.

6 new solo performances celebrating the lives of East Village residents. Based on interviews with our neighbors, and told entirely in their own words.

6 Actors to interview residents of Alphabet City and write and perform monologues based on those interviews.

An idealistic young African American man rises through the boxing ranks, battling both his opponents and Jim Crow. An important play from one of the founders of the American Negro Theatre.

early 20s, African American. Full-shouldered, idealistic boxer with a hair-trigger temper.

Mack Jeffris
40s-50s, Caucasian. Gruff, third tier boxing manager who takes on Andy as a fighter.

Bobby
20s, Caucasian. Will play various young man roles.

Mr. Berry/Charlie/ George
40s-50s, African American. Will play multiple roles including Andy’s father.

Lou Foster
40s-50s. Caucasian. Sinister, racist manager. Runs the whole East Coast boxing game.

Happy
30s-40s, African American. Veteran corner man who thinks it’s best to play along with the system.

Mickey
30s, Caucasian. Past his prime as a boxer. Has an axe to grind with Lou.

Larry Batchelo
20s-30s, Caucasian. Heavyweight champ. An eye for the ladies and a good time. Takes Andy under his wing.

WOMEN

Becky
50s-60s, African American. Andy’s granny, a fiery old woman in her sixties but whose energy might rate her in her forties.

Aunt Susie
40s, African American. Self-centered, airish and impetuous. Former show girl, etc. Now looking to settle down to quiet country living.

Ruth Lawson
early 20s, African American. Obviously vivacious, romantic with a sparkling personality underneath which a deep seated streak of wisdom occasionally flashes through.

Dorothy and Sadie
20s-30s. Caucasian. Two “glamour girls”

Lady Friend
20s-30s. Caucasian. Lou’s girlfriend, who’s about had it with him.
